Hatch lock cylinders

Ok, so when i bought my iroc it didn't come with the hatch keys. I went to auto zone and picked up a cheap lock that they say is for a 86 camaro.. lo and behold, it doesn't have the extension to turn the cable on the electric hatch... anyone know where i can get the correct one? I went back and the auto zone guy told me to removr the extension and put it on the new lock.. it looks pretty impossible...

Re: Hatch lock cylinders

hmm, you could disasemble both locks and take the whole peice that that extension is on and swap in the new locks actual cylinder and see if that'd work? if thats even possible i've never tried it, the door key should work the hatch? are there different door locks, because mine were switched before i got the car and my key still works the hatch

Re: Hatch lock cylinders

Why don't you just go to your GM dealer and give them the VIN number? They were able to cut me a key for the t tops just by doing that. And that same key also unlocks the trunk.

Re: Hatch lock cylinders

I really don't think these come apart,I could be wrong but I just don't see it.
I tried to pull on it and there's a spring in their and it looks to be riveted.

Not sure if the cable assembly will disasemble, however, there should be a way to get the tumbler to release. Someone, dealer/locksmith who has a master set of pins can re-pin (re-key) the tumbler. Another option is to swap tumblers. All of the tumblers I have had to remove required a key to remove the tumbler, so the tumbler may have to be "picked" if no key is available.

Re: Hatch lock cylinders

Ive already replaced my trunk latch.
@ mantaguy. Mine look much different, the t/a's must be different than the irocs.. with the irocs there is two tabs that hold the lock to the plastic. Using a screwdriver or two. Slide the screw drivers doen the sides between the tabs and lock cylinder.. then just pull it out. Thatd my brief summary. Im going ti research about getting my ttop locks matched to my hatch key. We'll see.
