Crossfire Flap Assembly
I took the hood off my '82 CFI Z28 (with working the flaps) and also removed the hood insulation. I found the flap assembly wasn't attached to the hood and was being held in place (poorly) by the hood insulation.
Can someone tell me if the two metal retainer plates (the U-shaped one behind the flaps and the straight one in front of the flaps) are supposed to be bonded (glued) to the underside of the hood of if they attach by some other means? The retainer plates have the studs that the flap assembly is attached to, via nuts.
I'm pretty sure the plates are supposed to be glued on to the hood because I can't see any other way for the flap assembly to attach to the hood itself. The Assembly Manual doesn't show the plates being attached to the hood via screws or bolts, but it also doesn't indicate that it glued either.
In my case, I suspect the glue or whatever bonding agent GM used has simply given up over the years, which allowed my flaps to separate from the hood, and to fix it, I need re-glue the retainer plates to the hood.
Any info is appreciated...

The mounting plates are supposed to be bonded to the hood. Ours let go too! 3M structural adhesive works, can't recall the product number.
