Re: pictures of cowl hoods

You camaro guys are so lucky when it comes to hoods and all the different styles you have to choose from. If us firebird wants something cool we have very little to choose from. or we have to build something our self. Like I had to. Its a custom ZL1 cowl hood or L88 if you like. This one is fiberglass, But I'm thinking of making a new one out of carbon fiber since I have the mold

Looks alot like the glasstek 2" hood. I think that would be my next hood if my intake elbow clears.

i got a harwood 4" but its cut up for the turbos. Now i'm movin turbos under hood and cant patch the hood, so I need a new one.

Re: pictures of cowl hoods

Those jongbloeds dont really fit the lines of the car very well. They sides are too rounded, nothing else on the car is that rounded and "bubble" shaped. It might look alright if they had louvers in it... then it'd look somewhat like the Trans Am Camaros:

But those cars are a lot more rounded off than our street cars.

I love them, always have. Different & more subtle than your typical cowl hood. Didn't realize Hawks still sold 'em. Good to know for future reference!

I can go snap some more pics of mine, but it won't be pretty. Then again...I have twenty more minutes of daylight, no snow, and it does need the dust hosed off. This really late winter is screwing me up here!

I think this car belongs to Blew-By-You

Do you run TPI, TBI, or carb? My hood was setup for a true cowl setup (carb, pan, foam, etc). It fit with the TPI just barely, after I put the Edelbrock strut brace on I had to start cutting. I need to figure out just how I want to re-glass the bottom to clean it up. BTW, this picture taken just after I bought it - MUCH cleaner now with a new motor

I don't unfortunately but when I'm ready for a hood, that's a strong candidate!

Also, I'm not sure how the hood looked before it was sprayed, but mine looks like crap the way it is right now. Whoever prepped and sprayed my hood did a really halfass job. I need to sand the top side, run a thin layer of bondo, spray high build primer, sand, prime, etc, etc. Man, I sure do hate painting!

Thanks! I'm thinking about taking out the Spohn a arms, I don't like how much they set the wheel towards the rear of the wheel well...having the wheel turned a bit doesn't help the look either. I can't remember if the rear coils have the isolators or not, I'd like to drop the back a half inch or so.

Glasstek 4". I like the body lines of this hood waaaaay better than any I've seen. I looked at pictures for about a week of different cowl hoods. Dont pay any attention to the wheels in the first picture.

I never liked the slow rise cowls, or the ones that started further into the hood. Mine isn't exactly what I want but I think it fits the third gen lines the best, but greasemonkey's is very nice

They don't look the same, yours looks like a 4" and the front of the cowl has a much more aggressive ramp up whereas the other is pretty gradual, flows well with the nose though.
