I'm going to paint my car soon but i dont know what color. at first i was going to paint it silver or blue but i seen so many of them riding around in memphis. so im thinking about going about with the org color green. can someone show me some pic of any green camaro

I'm in the same predicament. I just bought an 89 RS and its currently red, thought of changing it but it seems the most popular are red, blue, and black. Green would be different. I might go with a darker metallic red.

you dont have the original paperwork by chance? Sometimes if you google the year and make/model of the car, you can find the original colors they were sold as.

I found a website CarPaintOnline.com. If you go there and click on paint chart it has you fill in the year of the car and the maker and gives you the original colors of that year. Hope it helps

I've changed the paint color on a couple cars I've rebuilt; it's a complete pain in the butt. Every rock chip will show the old color, so if you're covering a red, yellow, or like an orange with something like black, white or silver- keep that in mind. Nitro-Nicky

That's why you have to do it right if you are gonna change the color--that means media blasting the bare shell in and out down to metal, and repainting the entire thing in and out, floor pans and all.

OP--you can get the paint codes from the bottom of the RPO sticker in the center console. Should be something like WAXXXXU and WAXXXXL where XXXX are the paint code numbers, and U denotes "upper" (main body color) and L denotes "lower" (ground effects color). If your car was originally green, I'll assume it's either Polo Green or the gray green color they had (don't recall the name offhand) which also means your car should have the same colors for upper and lower.

Most likely he dosn't need to do a $30 thousand dollar strip down if his car dosn't have three or more coats of paint AND the green was the original color. Geeez, don't scare the poor kid into nightmare land just yet!

JAWS- What currently is the color? AND do you even have the ability to repaint a car? Or the money it now costs? Aditionally, what grade of paint-job are you willing to settle for?
PUMA is right; it can easily get nasty and nasty equals e*x*p*e*n*s*i*v*e! But there's plenty of backyard 'B' quality paintjobs out there that work well from 10 feet back for a couple thousand dollars IF you can do every bit of the work in a color change and there's no real issues. However, a Camaro, with all that plastic takes a great deal of expensive materials- Don't get fooled into thinking otherwhise..... Nitro-Nicky

Do you have any paint skills? OR have you ever done paint prep work? One of the easiest ways(and the cheapest) to get a B quality paint job is to do all of the prep work and then get a 'MAACO', or one of those national paint chains to do the actual spray jobs.

The secret to a great paint job is to NOT mix chemicals from different manufacturers, to surgically clean the car before touching it with any sandpaper products, and then to stick to a specific prep plan.

There are many different approaches to sand-preping the vehicle; you don't have to always start with 220 grit or 36 or whatever. It all depends on what your vehicle surface needs. Just know that realistically it's going to cost you approx. $1500 in materials to sand, seal, prime, and paint. With our F-bodies, it takes extra additives in the paint to make it 'flexible' on the bumpers and other moldings, otherwise the paint will shatter.

It's also not a body surface for the rookie painter. There are way to many nooks, cranies, and edges to be worked with. It dosn't lend itself well to polishing out the mistakes afterwards; It's a very labor intesive spray job.

When I repaint my IROC, the only way to do it correctly, unless I want peeling paint in 3 or so years, is to unbolt all the plastics, bumpers, hatch, etc, and get that body way up off the ground by a couple feet. So you can see that PUMA isn't just blowing smoke. You would need to have painted a few different body styles to understand the tremendous skill set difference needed to paint one of these cars versus a typical Ford Taurus.

I'm not trying to scare you off or overload you- I just wanted to give you a shot of the real deal so you can decide if you want to do anything at all to your ride, or what level of paint you would be willing to settle for! Don't be like me and my first Camaro! I got over enthusiastic and started sanding before I had any idea of what I was doing. So I had to drive around in a 1/2 sanded 78 for two years and put up with all the dumb questions during that time! (bad cracking laquer paint)

My camaro is green...you can see it in my sig. I find my shade of green rather boring but I have always been a fan of the "brighter" colors on these cars. If you could find a color in a bag of skittles I would probably paint my camaro that color. That's just me though. I feel the need to make my thirdgens stand out from the crowd and I think the body lines pop with a bright color. I originally wanted a neon green paint job, then I decided to go orange. I have also been toying with the idea of a pink pearl.

I would suggest getting your hands on a sample book of paint codes and really taking your time picking out a color that you would love to see on your car (that you won't get sick of looking at). I mean if you are going to go all out and money isn't an issue why settle on a stock color, unless you really want it painted to look stock. Just my opinion. Good luck with the car!

I like that green Nikole. Dont do like I did and change your color to Atomic Orange. It was rare around here when I did and now everybody has it. I dont even want my car orange anymore. I should have left it the original color.

Your car dosn't have to stay boring Nikole. A couple years ago I hired an auto graphics artist to come up with a couple ideas and possible color changes in my IROC. It was money well spent. If you need an example of what a couple hundred bucks will get you, I could forward you a copy of what I got, but you'd have to promise not to use it or share it with anyone else, as the artist holds the Copywright still. The auto artist I used was Most Excellent, price was reasonable, etc. . You're Camaro should absolutely 'pop' with the right amount of graphics. I'm also usuing a graphics company to magnatize a couple World War 2 Vintage Nose-Art' designs; like those that were hand painted on the front nose of the big bomber planes that used to fly over and bomb Germany. These I'm using on the front fenders of an old hot-rod Chevy Truck. Just let me know if I can help! Maybe you could design and be the first to do a 3rd Gen full body wrap on their F-car!!!

Martin Senior is not bad paint, I use Dupont for their clear, my opinion is they are the best. I have used PPG and HOK, Dupont lays down about the best for me.

Changeing color is very labor intensive, you have to remove all the panels, doors and motor. These steps alone cost big dollars and you have not even started sanding. you can go with the green and always add some pearle or flake into the clear to give it a new look.
