Body Filler Heat Resistance

Since my engine died in my Camaro and I don't have the $$ right now to rebuild it, I have decided to take it off the road for a few years and go back and finish off the engine bay like I wanted to the first time I had the engine out while I'm saving the money for my engine build and T56 swap. I want to smooth everything out and weld all the seams up along with some other work.

I know its been done a lot on here by other members and I'm wondering if some of you who have done this have had any problems with the body filler cracking or coming loose due to the heat and temperature fluctuations in the engine bay. Also, what filler did you use?

The car will be my summer daily driver again when it's done and I want to make sure whatever I use will hold up.

Re: Body Filler Heat Resistance

considering heat is a method to remove body filler for some hacks of the body work world.. It is not meant to take such high temperatures. Some may disagree, but look up methods to remove body filler.. you will find "torching it off"

Re: Body Filler Heat Resistance

sorry to hear your motor died, but i did laugh at your engine explaination

Engine: Knockin' like it's at heaven's door

Reminds me of that steven king movie christine where the car plays "keep on knockin but ya can't come in!"

You can buy a high temp catalyst to mix into the filler. Just research it before you plan on starting your project and buy the one that best suits your needs and budget.

Thanks. I wasn't laughing at the time, but I've come to accept it. I haven't touched the car since I pulled it into the garage though, its still too frustrating to think about it.

I've never heard of any high-temp catalyst, I'll have to look into that.

Can't say I've ever heard of that either. I would imagine that would REALLY stink.
