1995 Pontiac Firebird: Worth saving?
Hello,
I bought a 1995 Pontiac Firebird on june 23 2011 to restore and tune up a little and sell back. I tought I would have some work to do on the floor because he said their was a little rust and a small hole... Took a look under and didn't see all what their was to see I guess. Look at what I found when I removed everything. If I decide to save it, I'll have to get someone who has good weelding skills because this is way outta my league to do it myself. Around where I live, car like this in better shape sell for $2600 canadian and more... I paid $780 for it.
When I decode the VIN, the web site say their's only one other Firebird with the same options as mine...
Here are the pics:

Since its not a rare car, just a base firebird I would say it's not worth saving. Just because that vin decoder says there is only one other makes it seem rare, but there is a big difference from rare and desireable. For instance my TBSS is one of two only because it has an engine block heater. Take that option away it's just like every single other one, and I doubt it will ever make it highly desireable in the future.

id say it depends on the rest of the car if its super high miles, has rust in the 1/4s and tranny is sliping id say its not worth it but if its like really low miles and drives nice it might be worth it. however you can prolly part it for more then you paid for it id quess, idk tho for sure

Well it got 147 000 miles. Mechanically wise, seem to run pretty good and doesn't burn/loose any oil.
Everytime I see one more F-Body go to the junkyard, it make me sad inside that's why I wanted to try and save it... Even if it mean not making any cash, but I wont take a losse too.
I'm still torn. I dont know if I have the skills and patience to take it all appart to sell parts.

if shipping wasnt so outrageous id offer to cut some floor pans out of a car in the junkyard here and send them to you. but itd prolly cost more then buying new ones local lol its up to you. your money but its prolly worth more in pieces.

That'S kind of you but shipping from USA to Canada like you said probably isn't worth it.

I found someone tonight who is willing to make the car at least safe again for $700, I think I'll go for it. He says the car wont have any problems passing an inspection or anything after it will be done right.

It depends. If you're looking at trying to make some money off of it, I wouldn't. That thing is in pretty rough shape for a '95, and it's not a Formula or Trans Am. It probably also has the less desirable of the V6 engines that were available in 4th gen years (some '95's had the 3.8, most, and previous years had the 3.4).
If something you want to fix up and enjoy for your own use, it could be a great learning experience. Just keep in mind that it's going to need quite a bit of work! And you're going to need to learn how to do some serious level work to bring it back to it's former glory, or prepare to spend some big bucks paying someone else to do it. If it was me, I'd part it out, and find either a V8 4th gen or 3rd gen to work on. But then again, I have a '91 bird that needs it's fair share of TLC that I'm working on, so I'm biased!
Bottom line, figure out if you really want to invest the time and money into it BEFORE you start!
