Trick to removing lower fender emblem?

I am in the process of pulling the passenger side fender and I cannot remove the RS logo. Before I do anything drastic I wanted to hear if there were any tricks. When i peak behind the fender (cover removed) I can see that the factory installed these with self tapping sheet metal screws. However, after pealing off the top RS layer, I do not see the heads of the screws. How the heck did they put these on? Do I have to drill these out? I didn't expect these logos to be anchored like this.

It's been awhile, but IIRC, the rocker emblem has two plastic pegs on the reverse that simply push into place. Again, IIRC, they can be seen from the back side. Under the emblem are two screws that help hold the ground effects in place.

Hmm. I need to look a little closer and post some pics. There aren't any nuts or plastic keepers on the back side of the screws and the sheet metal is puckered giving me the impression that they were just screwed in. However, I can't seem to find the heads of the screws. I tried to see if there was another layer to peel off the logo but it appears to the base plastic chassis that the thin logo sticks to (covering the heads of the screws). Hmm.

This OEM as I am the second owner and the fender has never been off.

No, no nuts or keepers. The entire emblem with its pegs pushes into the rocker over the two ground effects retaining screws. (You may have an issue removing those rascals--mine were pretty much seized in place.)

Thats what I was afraid of. I am nervous prying them out with the fender and GFX being so fragile. Paybe I can cut/drill away the plastic from the emblem and use a small punch to drive out the pegs. Thanks James.

"Seems" to me that the pegs are visible from under the car. If so, you might be able to push them out from the back.

I will take a closer look tonight when I get home and post some pictures if I don't succeed. I did remove all the small hardware from the GFX including the larger 13mm nuts underneight. I can see the pegs clearly when I stick my nose in the fender and peer in with a flashlight. The fender rocks and moves freely yet pivots/snags right at the point where the emblem is giving me the impression that this is the last connection. I might be able to pry it out with a thin blade without too much damage to anything, or like you said, push them out with something.

Re: Trick to removing lower fender emblem?

Well come to find out there are heads to the screws. The glue at the base of the plastic emblem had turned to concrete, likely fused with the GFX. I used a small drill to gently put some holes in the emblem. I was then able to pull it off in pieces with a pair of needle nose pliers. Voila! Fender came out. Pretty ugly process and I can't believe how much dirt was back there.
