its pretty much a tweaked version of the IMSA hood with a ZR! window. IMHO, it would look better with a body colored window, not clear.

they DONT make them, this was a one off hood. There was some discussion on here about possible making the hood, but i dont think it went anywhere. There is a thread here on TGO with more pics of this car but i forget where it is?

Re: Storm Trooper Hood

A good fabricator should be able to make that from a cowl hood and a piece of lexan.

How did I miss this, it looks awesome.

Still prefer RA1 hoods, but I do like the IMSA hood too.

Very true and is what i would suggest, i mean i would love to do it for fun and kicks, but i like to see the angle higher overall- still sweet.

but instead of a cowl- the pro am style cowl would be best imho

Re: Storm Trooper Hood

My main concern with this type of hood is how it'll look after being on a car for a year... I mean, unless the car it goes on is a show car or a garage queen, the lexan is gonna look like crap in no time - Aside from water/road/engine debris, the simple fact that you're gonna have 200*+ temps beating on it, etc...

In a year with even limited driving that I think its gonna be all cracked, deformed, bubbled, or hazed so badly it'll look like garbage.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: Storm Trooper Hood

its a actually window from a zr1 vette, not just a piece of lexan. Not sure what its made out of, but i would hope it has some UV protection so it doesnt yellow, especially for the price of it.

So you think the $100k+ ZR1's hood window will yellow a year off the lot?

Re: Storm Trooper Hood

Theres plenty of headlights out there made of some type of plastic/glass on higher end cars that dont haze over?

They handle a bit of heat as well, Maybe not as intense as engine heat, not sure how hot some of the headlamps get

Well, if the car is left outside and heat cycled (daily driven perhaps), then YES I do. If not yellow, I would still bet its not gonna look great.

Watch the TopGear episode with the new ZR1 - The rear bumper was falling off after a few days and the engine even refused to start - The Vette simply isn't built with any more quality than that of a Mustang IMHO.

Not looking to start a debate, its just my opinion.

Re: Storm Trooper Hood

Okay. "Bumper falling off" and being flimsy as shat are two different things. When did it no start? I just rewatched most of the america special and the r8vszr1 and didn't see a nostart issue so I guess I just plain missed that. However, if they're spending $2k a gallon on special clearcoat (http://www.vetteweb.com/features/vem...zr1/index.html) for the carbon bits I don't think they're going to release the car with an engine cover that will yellow over in a years time. Re: Storm Trooper Hood

Here are the pics of the Stormtrooper hood before it was modified.

http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/stormtrooper.aspx

I saw the GM High Tech and it is the exact hood i have been trying to find for about 10 years so i started looking for a similar hood i could modify and actually found a hood very similar to the Storm Trooper that needs no modification. The picture is trash and i have no idea how the company/product quality is, but it is a start. Hope this helps.

well the zr1's also have like 60k a gallon clearcoat and im asuming that the clear coat is applied over the window and that it SHOULD be strong enough to hold up to extra high heat...

forgive my ignorance, but none of the links, (most dont even work), nor anywhere on hawks site show the hood "before" any modification. It just looks like a IMSA hood with the zr1 window. I don't see anywhere that it was a daytona hood beforehand. unless the pics are now gone?

<shrug> not familiar with the pro am style cowl, so I'll take your word for it. But a normal cowl hood is pretty darn easy to find, and in metal.

Re: Storm Trooper Hood

Well, the fact is, Hawks has several parts in their sit that are cornered, hard to find elsewhere. But you get what you pay for from them. I was not happy buying LS swap headers that were that much, but it was worth it. No rust, fit great and look well after a year of abuse.

Re: Storm Trooper Hood

Hawks has never done me wrong. pricing may be a little higher but you pay for what you get and it seems as tho Hawks is very reputable.

now to come on here with the immaturity of a fifth grader, saying there all racists? what led you to that conclusion? ive spoken with a couple people at Hawks and they've been nothing but nice and cooperative.

and i commend Bruce for NOT apologizing as i wouldent have either, that dude is off his nut for a better choice of words.

Re: Storm Trooper Hood

LOL!! Thumbs up to Bruce, I'd take a tough stance with this moron too. The accusation of racism is laughable and reflects the poster's lack of character or intelligence. As far the guy being angry about the pictures being removed from the website, that is Bruce's business. Heck if I was Bruce I would probably not have posted them there in the first place. His livelihood is making parts like this and he is allowed to make money at it. His job is not to spoon feed copy cats on here. It looks like there may be some real interest in this hood, so he'd be wise to remove the pix and look at the possibility of producing the hood and selling it. Lets support our site sponsor, and one of the only guys drawing any real attention to our body style. As long as he keeps giving back to the community as he is currently doing I say we give him as much support as possible.

And just to further offset the racist comments. I have dealt with Hawks a few times as well and always been pleased. One time I ordered a passenger side seat belt and they sent the drivers side. I called them, they apologized and immediately sent the correct belt to me. In the package with the correct belt they had a return label that I placed on the incorrect belt and returned it to them. I can't possibly think of anything more they could have done. Mistakes happen and they immediately did the absolute maximum that they could do to resolve the issue. I will continue to deal with them in the future.

*** MOD EDIT due to quoting deleted comment ***

I have read every post and one thing bothers me with this comment, What was said give details. Without that I have to agree with Bruce and feel that no apology is in order here.
As for the prices some are high but some are right in line with everyone else. I am not sure anybody has nearly as complete a parts inventory for us. When I get ready I will order from them without a doubt in my mind for a quality part and good service.
I do like the hood alot but would not want it on my car.

Re: Storm Trooper Hood

Just read this thread for first time. I've got nothing but great service from Hawks. Even stopped by their shop just to check it out on the way to G14. Glad Bruce got on here and stood up for himself. Bruce, keep up the good work and I hope to see you again at G15

Re: Storm Trooper Hood

To defend Bruce, ( Although he is able to stand up for himself ) I have hung out with Bruce on many occasions and he has never EVER EVER shown me anything to suggest he is a racist. To throw words around like racist, when you cannot even give us an example of what he may or may not have done only takes the word and makes it more irrelevant.

the way I see it is if you can only use colorful expletives to express yourself then maybe you could grow up yourself.
