Change Firebird to Camaro

Have an opportunity to get a 3rd gen Firebird cheap, but want a Camaro. What sheet metal would have to change to go from Firebird to Camaro. Not worried about interior, or wiring.

Rear 1/4s, fenders, bumpers, hoods, bumper supports/crash bar. Glass and doors are about all thats directly interchangeable.

Re: Change Firebird to Camaro

Just buy a camaro dude. It's almost sad to think of someone ruining a good bird to switch to a camaro. Plus you may run into legal issues with a camaro on a firebird title.

Re: Change Firebird to Camaro

IDK about title issues, I mean there are so many bird/maros out there, not sure they care, but I can see where you are with that. The work you will have changing out the rear quarter panels will end up having u butcher a car that doesn't need to be. You can go bird/maro by changing all the front end stuff, headlight harness, body panels, ect. Honestly it's not worth the time and money to do it, but if that's your interest, then go for it.

Also side note, the entire rear fender is different, not just the taillight area, the wheel well flares are diff, the rear fender is an inch or so wider on top on a firebird to begin with, along with the taillight section being different. Do-able, but not normally practical just to turn it into a base model camaro that are still thankfully plentiful.

Just buy a Camaro no need to chop up a Firebird, I have seen many Camaro's for sale for low prices.

I disagree with that quote but if you want a Camaro get one as stated there is a lot of work to be done unless you can do all the work yourself you will get a Camaro much cheaper I was quoted $300 to replace a quarter panel (no parts) multiply that by 2 and find a parts car you will be looking at about a grand easily and you can find a decent Camaro for that price (maybe not rust free) plus it will be a LOT of work.

The number of people on this website currently tearing the surviving population of these cars apart is ubelievable. Visit earlythirdgen.com. There actually are some enthusiasts out there that are attempting to restore third generation Firebirds and Camaros with factory NOS parts, or keep nice original cars that way.

Re: Change Firebird to Camaro

I agree i have been debating wether or not to go LS1 like so many others are because of the power potential but decided against it because I wanted to keep the original block. I will rebuild my original block and add some bolt on's for more power though.
