Wow! It's been a little bit since I last checked on your project, and it looks like you've come a lot way. Very nice work bro. Makes me feel bad about my slow progress on my own project, almost a year now and I'm still working on the teardown. Oh well, that's life though. Glad to see you're getting there, way to go!

Re: My ground up (Start to finish) thread

so, i know that you put girdles on the cover to help out with some extra strength back there, but did you also put pre-load bolts in to preload the bearing caps? the big aluminum girdle covers are only good because of these preload bolts....otherwise you just kinda wasted your time on that one.

sure looks neat though...this is coming from a guy that has extra tubes welded into the rollbar, just cause it's cool looking

Re: My ground up (Start to finish) thread

Is it necessary for the lowered control arms even if you have the new tubular torque arm? Is the traction increase noticeable?

Re: My ground up (Start to finish) thread

the lowered control arm brackets keep the axle centered in the wheel wells after lowering. without them the wheels will be closer to the rears of the quarters.

Re: My ground up (Start to finish) thread

Thanks for the complements.

kinda old news but i had to make some plates to raise the transmission up with the new cross member. i ended up using two 1/4" plates. if i didn't my headers would hit the already notched out a-arm ears.

I order some UMI lower control arms from summit on when UMI had there 20% discount and i had a coupon from summit for $20 off orders over $100 so i got them cheaper then i could have made them for. i painted them to match the rest of the parts under the car.

The undersides and suspensions almost done. i have to get an alignment,
i want to have the car on a frame rack to make sure the chassis is 100% i got sub frames to wrap up and powder coat and weld on the car along with lower control arm relocation brackets to weld on and lower control arms to bolt on. exhaust kit to assemble and a y-pipe to fabricate. i might have to pull the front drivers side coil and re-weld a area i notched/patched it seems i didn't get enough penetration from the back side. after all that i plan on getting weight jacks probably after the cars done.

Re: My ground up (Start to finish) thread

I ended up buying bolt on LCA Relocation brackets, the ones with out the shock tabs are harder to get match up relatively to each other.

I got my sub-frames fully welded, i will probably clean them up media blast and powder coat them but not till after im done mocking up and install my exhaust.

Pulled everything but the K-member got it ready to permanently weld in the nuts on the bottom and install poly motor mounts. And i can get to painting the front of the underside now.

After the poly mounts are in then i have to fix one issue that's been bugging me, someone had striped some of the transmission cross member threads and used mismatched bolts. My plan is to take out the bolts and drill pilot holes from under the car though the organelle holes and then hole saw from the top drop in M10 bolts and weld them in and use a washer and locking nuts at the bottom. After that's done its on to the exhaust...

I had bought a magnaflow cat-back several years back before they become popular on tgo, I have had magnflow on my 4thgens and liked the sound and the fact every things stainless i might looking into something different like borla or corsa or i may keep it will see.

I have came up with my own stainless mandrel bent y-pipe kit iv tried to sell in the tgo classifieds if i can get some sold i will produce more.

Re: My ground up (Start to finish) thread

make sure you have plenty of room between the exhaust and the subframe connector....mine vibrates against it.....now i gotta remove the exhaust a grind some of the subframe away to make room.....it's tight under there! your picts look great!

Re: My ground up (Start to finish) thread

I got the 6 nuts welded to the k-member so much easier to do mounts wish i did this when i had it all apart before. I got the poly mounts installed, Im glade i did seems it corrected some issues, The headers have more clearance on each side since the engine sits 1/8 to 1/4 higher. Even with these mounts one would still have to modify the k-member and a-arm pockets for the headman long tubes.

Unloaded height differences. Possibly because the rubber ones are wore out

Re: My ground up (Start to finish) thread

Great thread, I just found rust in my floor pans and discovered my sway bar isn't even connected. Will probably have to do the same to my car in the future, keep up the good work!

Re: My ground up (Start to finish) thread

I have to do something similar to the bolts on my transmission cross member. I had planned on a similar fix.

Please take some detailed pics of your fix it would really help me out.
