suggestions on rear quarter panel dmg
ok so i want to get this fixed drives me nutz...it is pretty bad underneath where the spare tire goes but the quarter panel itself doesnt seem to bad...got a dent up by sail panel that should be able to be pulled out...and i need to get a new bumper cover and quarter gfx...what ya say i should do?..replace the panel or try and fix it...it has pushed the taillight out some...and its not lined up properly with rear hatch which is also off alignment...hatch i got aligned best i can for now but where the strut connects to hatch its bent a little tried to bend it back but felt like it might break so i left it alone...right now main focus is that quarter panel...

Re: suggestions on rear quarter panel dmg
sorry took longer then expected to get back to you. was having a hard time finding the usb cable for my camera...anyways here are a few shots of the panel from the inside...like i said before its mainly the floor area where the spare tire goes although the quarter panel is damaged pretty good...anyways id most appreciate any advice on what to do at this point...replace the panel or fix it...i know you cant give a real detailed justified answer since you can see care in person but if you guys can possible give me a ball park number on what you think it would cost to get the body work done plz give....

I've got driver's side quarter damage similar to what you have, its slight but definitely enough to cause the trunk to rub against the quarter when i shut it. I've head trying to press it all out is worthless but buying a new quarter is expensive, especially if a shop does it. So i'm interested to see how yours goes.

Naw, New quarter panel is 85 + shipping...
I'd most definately would try and say to save it, have you tried pulling it with a crobar just to see if the sucker will bend out??

Re: suggestions on rear quarter panel dmg
I have a 85 Z I'm restoring and it needs both 1/4's. Body shops in my area average about $1000.00 a side just to hang and mud. I'm lookin to do the work myself for about $500.00. I've been to school for bodywork and hope to be able to make it look good. (it's been awhile) As for the spare tire area I will be replacing that to. Mine will came from a doner car (just spot welded in) easy to remove with a spot weld cutter. I guess it just depends on your area (for a body shop) or (if you can find someone with experiance) that can guide you or do it for a cheaper price? Good Luck too ya.

Re: suggestions on rear quarter panel dmg
ive tryed hitting it with hammers and tried prying it with a long bar...i can get it to move a tiny bit but thats about it...i cant really hammer from inside not enough room to get a good swing in...but might be able to pull out thats what i was wanting to see what you guys said about it...i went to a paint shop when i was living in socal and they quoted me 2500+ and that wasn't even fixing the bottom part where spare tire goes that was just for quarter panel...i would like to try and save but be a lot easier and cheaper in the long run...im not to concerned about the bottom part that ppl cant see right now i can go back later and fix that...but i want to get the quarter panel fix so i can get a new bumper cover and gfx so car looks hole and not like its got a chunk missing...

Re: suggestions on rear quarter panel dmg
It appears that the panel is severely distorted from the damage to the bottom and the rear. The panel distortion is largely the result of the panel being pinched by the damage. The best thing to do here is to have a body shop do a pull on the quarter panel and rear body panel while working on the dents and waves to the panel and floor. You will not be able to fix the quarter without restoring the panel to is original length by a pull. You will also not be able to just cut the panel off and hang a new one on the car. You are going to have to make a pull of some sort while working on the damage, period. Lots of the damage will work out as the panel is returned to its proper length with the pull. It may be possible to use a floor puller, or even a come along, if you are lucky, to pull the panel, but the wrinkles in the floor involve the unirail on that side, and this is beyond the scope of a come along repair. The panel can be nicely repaired by a good bodyman with the right equipment, and replacement may not be needed, but you will need to get a unibody pull done to allow that to happen. Thanks, Oldtimer.
