finally getting ready for paint!
So this coming weekend is the long weekend and ive taken off the friday to make for a 4 day weekend. So i decided its best to finally paint my car.
I have a few questions. i have painted a little bit before but am unsure what primer and all the base coats i need. can someone break down what is the best bet for these cars? if it matters my car is going to be going apple red.
also, did you guys paint your wheel wells? or did you leave them?
thanks!

Any good paint shop will point you in the right direction if you tell them what your plan is. It sounds like you're pretty green when it comes to painting, so i would go with a base/clear combo. This should be easier than a 1-shot to work with. That way you can make sure the base coat is in good shape before shooting the clear coat. The actual brand of paint all depends on what you want to spend.
As far as the wheel wells, Duplicolor does a spray on bedliner type material that would hold up well to any rocks or dirt. Should stay black for a while and is easy to touch up when needed.

You could shoot the wheel wells the same color as the car, but i would be concerned with rock chips and damage to the paint. Worse case scenario the plastic flexes and flakes the paint right off. A flexible bedliner spray can be tinted to match almost any color. I guess it all comes down to what you want to spend.
I've always shot PPG paint and had very good luck. I'm not sure what you guys have over in Canada, but in MI we've got a shop called Painter's Supply. They've got everything you need in one spot. Summit is also now carrying painting supplies. One of their customer service reps might be able to walk you through what you need. Another option would be to stop in to your local paint shop and see if you can chat with someone there.
