91 Z28 Rear Bumper Help Rusted frame rail
I have a 91 Z28 up under the rear bumper the metal piece that runs accross the rear that the bumper bolts to. I guess Its a frame rail? Not sure what you call that piece. Anyhow it is rusted and I was wondering how difficult it would be to fix this? Is this piece welded in?
Anyone ever have this part replaced and if so about how much would it cost..Thanks

The framerails are connected to the rear panel of the car. The bumper is bolted to the rear piece that is below the taillights. No matter which piece is rusted it isnt a bolt on deal. You can buy the framerails, you cannot buy the piece that is below your taillights. Cost? depends on which one and how much your shop charges you for a labor rate. Estimates are free in most cases..just go and ask.

That's the bumper support...That just bolts onto the back and attached to the frame. There's a plastic mesh that attaches to that support via rivets. You can buy a brand new one for under $100...I bought mine a couple years ago cause it looked like that too....and then I prepped and spray painted it red and used some nuts and bolts to attach the plastic mesh support to it.

Also it's a straight forward fix too....you've got some nuts and clips holding the bumper cover on....I think you'll have to remove the tail lights to get it off too...then that whole bumper unbolts from the car with I think 8 carriage bolts/nuts (4 on each side)...that can be a pain as some of mine were rusted so bad I couldn't get them off with out cutting....it's definitely easy enough to do in an afternoon though.

Sorry for the confusion in my first post the way it was worded. I was unaware of the support piece right below the tail lights. Which is spot welded. Thats not the piece I was refering to..The piece I need is the bottom piece..

Hey Thanks a million! This is what I need!

Here's another place...just do a search for Camaro Bumper and look for the least expensive one...then just drill out the rivets on the plastic and attach to the new one.

I wouldn't replace it, IMO. If it were me I would just grind it down really well, spray something on it to stop the rust, maybe even just some undercoating from a spray can. It'll probably just rust again if you buy a new one, or you'll have to replace it in the case you ever get rear ended. Not trying to jynx ya on the last one though.
