floor pan finally installed

hey guys, i finally got my drivers floor pan in yesterday. keep in mind it was my first time really being able to use the welder as before the welds would just not do it properly for me. but it seems alot better now. i just gotta clean a few up and then paint and seem sealer and should be good to go.

just wondering what you think?

Regards
Douglas

Looks great man, I could tell you were struggling with the welds, but dont beat yourself up over it, this thin sheet metal these cars were made of is difficult to weld, especially without a really good welder. I have done extensive welding on my 90 Bird and at the end of the day I was so frustrated with my welds that I decided that as long as they hold good I dont care what they look like, cause I have a terribly crappy welder because my good one burned up somehow. I used 5/16 thick steel when I redid mine so trying to weld it to the thin stock metal was a real PITA. Perhaps using a new floorpan is much easier.

Do yourself a favor and dont just paint it, use something like POR15, its good stuff.

Anyway, I have to do another floor pan on the 83 TA I just got a couple months ago and when I got ahold of yearone they wanted $200 just for shipping so I've been searching for another place to get it. Where did you buy your floorpan?

Re: floor pan finally installed

hey, yes it did struggle alot haha. but im not sure about yearone but where i got my floor pans the metal didn;t seem to burn through so easy where as my floor in the car was extremely easy to burnthrough and you have to turn the voltage down and then play with the speed again and flow of argon c02 once again too. regardless im extremely happy for my absolutly first time putting something together but as you stated its as long as it holds i pressure tested it wtih me on it and my brother so i think its ok. also gotta make sure you weld in the undercarriage arm that comes out but it,in my mind at least looks and holds great. there is a first time for everything and this was mine but it came out better then expected.

the floor pan came from cross canada auto parts cost me somewhere around 300 ish i think after i got the pan. well worth it tho. i didn;t really cut any of it out and it went together great!

good luck with your projects and maybe one day well see you around on the highways and biways

Nice job! Make sure to seal it inside and out and coat it with Por 15 inside and out and you should be good for another 20 years.

Thanks. I've never heard of that parts chain, but I looked em up and the floor pan was $390 +shipping. I looked the store up and fortunately I'm only 88 miles from their Windsor store. So I will probably get a better deal going to pick it up myself rather than shipping. Unfortunately I may not be able to get into canada. I dont have a passport, plus I have felonies so they act like I'm a terrorist or something. May have to get a friend to go for me.
