About to go in for paint...
I have a friend who's a body guy, and he's making me a deal I can't turn down. I've got an '87 T/A, T-tops, shaved handles and locks, 17" polished Eagle 077's...otherwise fairly stock. It's a stock 305 TPI automatic, and will likely stay relatively stock, performance-wise. I'd eventually like to lower it a bit, but I want to get all the paint and wheels on it first.
So..as far as paint, I'm pretty set on a two-tone design similar to Jekyll & Hyde's car seen here:
Of course I'll have to change it a bit in the front to go with my T/A vs. his Camaro. What I can't decide is if I want to go black over orange similar to this, or if I want to go with black over a medium gray metallic. I'd divide the colors with a stripe, beginning thin in front going to about 3/4" in the back. If I went with black over orange I'd divide it with bright silver. If I went with black over gray, I'd likely divide it with red or orange.
I'm afraid the orange would be too much with a stock 305. I dunno. The gray would be more "classic" looking, where the orange would jump out and grab you.
So...which would look better? Opinions?

That black over orange, with the wheels and tint, is awesome. I doubt that any other color scheme would have the same look. What's your stock/present color?

Re: About to go in for paint...
Wow. Thanks for the overwhelming number of responses, guys!I've got it stripped almost all the way, ready to start sanding. I think I'm going to shave the side markers while I'm at it, too. .I'm going to go with a 2007 Honda Element Tangerine color on the bottom, with black on top, and silver divider. I'll post some pics once it's done. I've got a 4th gen rear with a Torsen and 3.73's ready to go under it, too.
----------
Why the heck do my pictures always line up in a row rather than go one under another? I even tried putting a period on a line between them and it still turns out funky.

I like Navy Blue and White. It would look great one a thirdgen. I would get it divided by a silver line.

Re: About to go in for paint...
Keep the black over orange. For a stripe, how about the Yenko style stripe? Like this...Sorry if I forget WHO this car belonged too, but he's here on TGO.

I've always liked the hockey stick stripe...but that's a Camaro thing! If I had a Camaro, of any year, I'd go with that one!

Re: About to go in for paint...
Just an update...I've got it all torn apart and started sanding and priming the smaller parts. I had to get a new left fender...it was cheaper than foolin' around with fixing mine. I shaved all the side markers, adn I think it looks pretty good. I also got my rear end swapped to a 3.73, Torsen diff'ed 4th gen unit...so all four wheels match, now. I'll post up a few pics in a couple weeks when it's done.

Re: About to go in for paint...
I wouldn't paint it black/orange since someone else has clearly already done it. It just isn't nice. And there are several other ways to break a line, be creative!
besides, it makes it look like a harley truck. red and gray go well together, as do blue and gray. Yellow and black or silver. red and silver. orange goes well with silver pretty well. green and silver can work. Brown is coming in I think, but probably looks better on rounder cars. Purple goes okay with silver. Theres a lot of color choices to pick from. I'd like to see a hot pink 3rd gen myself.

We got the first coat (actually 4 coats) of primer blocked out. It's looking pretty flat! We sprayed the second coat (really 3 coats) of primer on last night. I hope to be spraying color Saturday, or maybe one evening next week!

Re: About to go in for paint...
It's finally loaded up and ready to go to the booth tonight. We are going to get it taped up and ready to shoot tonight, then spray it tomorrow. The pics show the orange color in the jambs, and show the amount of "flop" in the color. I think it's going to look good. We're dividing the black and orange with silver HOK Marblizer over black base.

Re: About to go in for paint...
I'm jealous! I like the orange, but I wanna go with something other than black. Most people might not really like it (no, not PINK!) but it's my car, and it always matters more if YOU like your car, or OTHERS like it.

Man, oh man...I need to lower my car. Here's a few more cloudy day pics I just took. The Marblizer doesn't show up real well in pictures. It looks good in person, though. There's still a lot to do, but it's gettin' there!

I guess I could go ghetto, and cut the coils and have it done NOW, but I'd rather wait and do it the right way. Give me time.

Nothing wrong with cutting coils. Nothing ghetto about it at all.
Do youthink the "professionals" get a new set msde, if they wan a 1" height difference? No. They cut theirs.

wow, that looks really cool, nice job!
Thats similar to what I want to do, only with red, and instead of doing the whole hood, I only want to do the scoop.

Really? I find that hard to believe, honestly.Professional what?...I guess that's the question. Professional racers?...I'd imagine they'd just adjust their zillion dollar coilovers.Professional car builders?...I'd imagine they [i]would[/] call Alcan or someone else and have a new set made up. I'd hate to think that Chip or Boyd would take a cut off wheel to the coil to make the ride height like they wanted on my six-digit car. Doesn't sound like a shortcut that a pro would take.I guess I feel like mine are 20+ years old, and could stand to be replaced anyway. Combine that with the newer technology and progressive rates in the available aftermarket springs, and I'll take that route. No offense if you've cut yours, though...to each his own.

Not ever class even allows coilovers, nor do every racer have a sponsor, for new springs, nor can they always afford to make adjustments. So ya, I meant racers and builders.

imo the vent on the fenders would look good black. and I was told cutting coils was dangerous and shouldn't be done. I'd just wait and lower it the right way.
