Hey guys, i recently took my camaro into a shop and had them fix the rear inner wheel wells.. they are really bad.. completely rooted out as you can see in the pics. i got a call from him just yesterday to tell me that what he first quoted me ( max 1600 canadian ) to fix the rear was not enough. hes now telling me that its going to be at least double to fix them now. the thing is, the inner wheel wells were really bad. the guy has taken his time to fix them properly but at my expense. do you think its worth it? like i could of got another body and gone from there but now its almost done i dunno. it seems like this guy is really trying to rip me off now..

just trying to see what you guys think

His first quote, was it a written quote. Why didnt he call to let you know it would be more. Did you say whatever it takes in a weak moment. Try to comprimise. If that doesnt work SUE.

I have walked away from buying cars just because of the rear quarters and the expense to fix them. people really do not understand how expensive it is just to fix them and to top it off fix them right. i've junked several bodies just because one of the rear quarters was starting to separate.

i feel for your concern but this is a personal thing with you that you must consider. personally for $1,600 canadian to fix which doesn't sound that high for both pannels at all i would walk away and trash the body.

a new and correct rear quarter pannel is $800 a piece. add the time and work to put it on the car and fix it correctly and you can see that you could easily spend $2,000 just to fix both sides and you haven't even gotten into paint work. many shops around here will charge say $4-500 a side to "patch" them up and then you still have to blend the paint. the car is never the same. remember, this is in us funds of course but you get the idea.

you can take another $1,500 and buy a low mileage RS for $3,500 range for your project with extra parts to sell off to make your money back just as an idea.

with older cars or lets say you had a low mileage rare edition it would be worth it. if you have a higher mileage regular rs or iroc style car it doesn't make sense.

just looking at your pictures i would part the car and start over...

i completely agree, however hes almost done hte work now. it really does look great and think about what you just said.. you would scrap it.. is there a really good chance you will find one without ANY rust? im not sure for you but in canada there is NOTHING.. i have rebuilt everything on this car.. i will talk to him like the last gentlemen said and go from there.. i think for what this guy has done its well worth it seeing as tho imma keep this forever most likely but you make be right parting it may be the only option.. ill post picks when i get it back..

thanks for your input

If the work is just about done you may as well just put it back together and drive it. What's done is done, there is no sense in parting out a car like yours that just got quarter panel work done on it.

I'm with kandied here, I won't look twice at a car that has rear damage just because of the amount of work and price it would take to get right. Only when I'm looking for a drag body will I debate getting something like that, and that's just so I could widen them to fit some big tires without having to tub it, much at least.

Talk with the guy, negotiate a better price.
