Front end of the car rattles...

First off I drive a 92 pontiac firebird, V6 4 speed completely stock right now. My problem is every time I hit a bump or turn into a parking lot I hear a metal on metal rattling sound from the front on the passenger side. I tested this by taking everything out of my car so all that was left was the car itself.

I broke the bracket that holds the control arm/cradle to the unibody frame and believed it was that, and got it fixed, but in the front on the passenger side I still hear a metal on metal rattling sound. Could this be my ball joints or bushings, and if I replaced them would it fix the problem? The car is 14 years old stock in great condition so I wouldnt be suprised if some of the rubber was shot. Although my mom's 92 firebird did the same thing.

If you can answer this it would be a great deal of help =)

sounds like a ball joint, take it to a shop and replace both ball joints and have them do a wheel alignment too.

It's your front sway bar bushings..it's a common problem that develops with these cars. To test it, get under the car and smack the sway bar..if the bushings are toast, the sway bar will have play in it and make the noise described.

ball joints in canada are 50 buks a pop for some good quality ones. in the states they could be 20 buks. canadian prices are way off from the rest of the worlds.

Mine used to do that when I turned left hard. After I swapped out my rear end with one from an 84 Z the sound mysteriously went away, even though the sound sounded like it was coming from the front. Go figure. Never figured out the problem though.
