Maybe worng forum, need help with getting title, switching VIN #

Hey everyone, I just got an '86 Trans Am and when I went to the courthouse to see what they had to say about the title they said it was junked and that I needed the last titled owner to come in and have it inspected blah blah bla.

I doub't this will be possible so I'm wondering about alternatives like switching the vin from and 82 that I have. Can this be done without removing the 86's glass? I only paid $350 for this car and don't want to spend a ton on glass removal and installation.

Sorry for the bad gramar, run on sentences, etc. I in a big hurry to get back to the courthouse and see if the 82's title is even good.

Thanks guys
Rex

Thats illegal to do, if your caught switching vin numbers its a federal crime, and YOU WILL be atleast put in jail if not fined... try to find the orginal owner.

I'm fairly confident that I've found the owners new address and phone number, but I'm a little worried that he might not be willing to help. I mean, he did junk it for some reason. Maybe he was still owed money? If he is willing to help it will still have to be inspected (which means checking the VIN and odometer.)

I'm hoping to turn this into a decent daily driver. Currently my daily driver is a nice '86 Firebird. It has a new paint job (Sunburst Metallic Orange), new SD hood from hawks, new seats, new dash, rebuilt 305, edelbrock 650 carb, headers, etc. Basically its a really nice car and I want to take some heat off of it.

Find the last owner...if you have the VIN number off the car, that should be no problem for the registry to get a hold of. Thats the way to go.

If you are caught with an altered VIN you will be
1: arrested and released on PR ( $200-300)
2:Vehicle towed and impounded and you will have to get the last registered owner of the vehicle anyway to take the vehicle out of the impound because you would have to prove ownership....which you cannot do without the last owner. This ill cost $100 to retrieve vehicle out of impound.
3. (I dont know KY's laws) Your license will be cancelled.
4. If proof of ownership cannot be determined, your vehicle will be impounded and either sold to a junk yard or auctioned at the state auction.

JUST FIND THE LAST OWNER

good luck

Your VIN and other identifying numbers are on several places on a car. Your MVD inspector knows where they are. You don't. The reason the cars are inspected is to look for stolen cars or parts. The minute there is a VIN discrepancy (switched VINS) your probably headin' to an interrogation room as a presumed car thief.

Now we just saved you $3000.00 in attorney fees... go out and grab you a decent 3rd gen.

(sell that thing a piece at a time on eBay)

It's already been mentioned if you read the posts above that swapping VINs is a federal offense.

Yes, I deleted all of the posts that had ANY sort of illegal info. TGO will not allow any sort of posts having to do with committing a FEDERAL OFFENSE. VIN tampering is illegal in each and every state. If you want info on how to obtain a salvage title, please just Google it.

Any questions, PM me...
