Painted trim?

I'm repainting the car. The roof rail trim and door handles need to be painted. I've sanded them down nice and smooth. What kind of paint will last the longest on these items? The car is blue & I want the trim to be a gloss black. Will rattle can paint suffice for an item with heavy usage such as a door handle? Is there a special "trim" paint? What type of primer (if any) should be used on these items?
If anyone has experience in this department your expertise is appreciated!

Powder coating is nice, but I would rather paint because of the time and $$ associated with powder coating.
I found a semi-local auto body supply store that sells a glossy OEM black trim paint. It is recommended that you do not use a primer with this stuff. It was about 10 bucks. If anyone else wants to know, it is made by SEM and has an 80% gloss finish.

there is a spray can paint sold specially for plastic. sells at walmart for a good price. gives a glossy finish, u may not want it but they also have some that has a hammered finish effect. i used silver-grey on my sill plates and the gleam can almost blind u in the right light and angle. lol.
