The rear window tint on my 91 looks terrible. I'ts wrinkled and hard to see thru. Don't know if it's just cheap tint, installed wrong or a combo of the two. It has to come off but just peeling it doesn't seem to work well. Have to be carefull with defog lines and the tiny lines at the top. What is the right way to do this? Chemicals, heat gun ect?

I used a plastic putty knife thingy to get some tint off of my hatch glass. Worked okay. I think there's a chemical called Tint-Off or something like that, and the name is pretty much self-explanatory. Do a search, someone else asked this not too long ago.

i just used a good ol hairdryer to get it off (5% isnt gonna pass inspection in NC ) but yeah its just held on by a special type of glue and water so some heat should do the trick

I'm gonna try the heat gun first or hair dryer, got both.

Don't know where to find that tint remover stuff but iffin' I have to, gonna find it.

I used to have to remove tint off windows for inspection where I used to work. Peel the tint off as best you can and then use a razor blade or scraper and soak the adhesive with windex and scrape the wet adhesive with the blade. All the cars I had to do this worked pretty well. But if this is on the rear hatch you have to be careful not to damage the defrost traces, unless you dont care if it works or not.... Hope this helps you

they sell a kit for it now at autozone it comes with a scraper and some chemicals to get the glue off, and if it comes down to it they also sell a defroster repair kit.

It is called Tint-Off, I bought some at Wal-Mart a while back. It's mostly diluted ammonia, with a couple other chemicals, doesn't smell though. It really disolves the glue well. I just got a corner started with a razor blade then sprayed the fluid as I was peeling the film off. Then used some more fluid to clean off the rest of the glue when the film was all off.

i havent used tint-off. but when i had to remove mine recently i used almost every friggin chemical out there without very good results. the one thing that worked the best was aircraft remover. pretty strong **** and it will burn if u get it on ur skin. but it worked on my very stubborn old *** tint.

get some glass cleaner, thinner , a blade and a heat gun (or blow dryer). GIve the window some heat from the outside not the actual tint peel a corner off and continue peeling. Then remove the residue with some thinner. Or you can throw glass cleaner on it real good and with a blade scrape the glue off. Thats how we do it at my job

Acetone works good for sticker glue, not sure on tint though. I'm gonna try this winter,, since I have the same issues.

I just removed the tint from my 1988 RS yesterday. I found that if you rip it off quickly, the glue stays behind. But if you pull it very slowly, the glue comes with the tint and you won't have to do any scraping of chemical spraying.
