What size tires are you using on 17x9.5 wheels?

I've been talking to one of my friends on and off for a while about upgrading wheels. There's a place here in the UK that will custom make any size you like and I was thinking of 17x9.5. Just wondering what size tires people use with this size rim. 275/45/17? or 275/40/17? I don't want to throw the speedo off too much.

Thanks

Car: too many ...
I run 275/40/17 on the 17x9.5 unless I'm drifting. And since I only use them to drift, I dont run that size anymore.

I presume you could go up to 285? Only problem is, the price difference between 275/40/17 and 285/40/17 is $40 per tire here in the UK.
