Anyone ever seen or know of a place that can make a custom hatch w/ tint "between" both panes of glass? That would be 100% more durable than regular glass w/ tint, and won't streak/bubble/etc. when cleaning, etc. It'll give a more "factory" look.

Any ideas?

are you having that much of a problem? i actually want to remove the tint on mine to go a few shades lighter. it's been on for almost 5 years and it's absolutely perfect but it was expensive.

the only type i have seen like that are on the newer lexus models for example that have a monochrome look to them.

I just want a limo tint that won't peel off or anything. My hatch is kinda messed up since it has grids, and there is some type of metal rub on it that won't come off. So, I'd have to find a gridless hatch and then get it tinted.

I always heard that you have to be very careful when cleaning it, b/c the tint film scratches easily. Not sure on the truth to that. I'd definately go 3M if I were to get it tinted.

I was just saying the custom hatch route b/c I'd know it'd last forever and wouldn't be a problem cleaning, etc.

Please correct me if I'm wrong and/or am missing something.

just take it to a tint shop have them do it, and if it starts to scratch or rub off take it back and tell them they did a **** job on it and to fix it.

I had a rear window tinted back in like 95 and its just now starting to get a slight purple look from the inside if you look at the right angle.

Deff just take it to a pro shop and have it done. Mine is done in 1 piece and was well worth it.

1 piece or two really doesn't matter so much as the material itself. the more expensive titanium films cost more but they are worth it. just keep your eye out for a good shop. i had my z28 tinted at 5 places before i found the right shop.

Mine was done in 1 piece too. If they say they can't do it, move on.
What I really want are windows that can darken on command.

just get a rear hatch without defrosters , its the way to go , thats what i got , i didnt want to have to deal with the defrosters and i never use them anyway , so why does it matter right ? Ive seen that glass before , i think they ise it in france in the bathrooms , they have the bathrooms like right in the middle and when you flip the light switch the lights go on and the walls turn black . that would be some sweet stuff to get dont to windows.

the only time you would need a one piece is if you had no defrosters. as far as the automatic tinting windows... if it's a show car do it otherwise when they fade and only work in certain portions you'll be upset.

you defenitly need to go to a tint shop to have it done but you also need to be careful of what tint they are using also. i had a 91 rs that i bout in 92 and sold it in 2000. my friend has a tint/detailing shop and he does all my tints for all my cars. on my 91 he did it in 6 pieces but you cant tell. it looks like it is in one piece. it takes him about 3 hours to do it right but it is well worth it. he hates doing it cause the car hatch is so big and now that i have an 86 he is dreading it even more also for regular customers he chargers 600 bucks to tint the windows on that car but the quality of the tint is great. almost 10 years since he did it and it hasnt fadded, bubbled or peeled one bit

Looks like the verdict is to just find a reputable show to have them do it. That was my plan at the beginning. I've seen a few places around here, just don't know about their quality of work, etc...Some just say, "3M Materials" for what they use.

How about the durability of it, as far as cleaning, etc.? Does it scratch easily?

I'll definately need to find a new hatch w/o grids on it (b/c mine has the grid, plus that metal area that won't come off)...So, whenever my new engine project is done, that'll be the next thing to come. (it never really IS done now, is it? )
