My hatch goes up fine releases fine but going down it sucks down 3/4 of the way than stops i put my hand on the spoiler and give a little assistance and it closes the rest of the way. whats wrong or is just me not looking hard enough for it catching on something?

CAUTION: The hatch pull-down unit must fully close and trip the reversing switch. You'll hear a noticeable "CLICK" when it reaches the bottom of the cycle. If it doesn't close completely and trip the reversing switch it will burn up the motor in a very short time. Now on to diagnosing and fixing it.

Remove the hatch surround trim. Inspect the hatch pull-down unit. Press on the striker-sensing switch (small black switch just in front of the latch as you're facing the hatch pull-down unit from the rear of the car). The unit will cycle down as long as you're holding the switch. Watch it as it cycles down. When it reaches the end of the cycle and clicks, release the switch. It should cycle all the way up. Here's a couple of things that come to mind based on your description. The striker-sensing switch could be going bad. If the switch isn't maintaining contact the unit will stop. That may be why pushing on the hatch helps complete the cycle. Also the guides could be broken and jamming in the tracks causing it to stall out before reaching the end of the cycle. If this is the case the motor should feel hot due to the excessive strain. NOT GOOD! Take a look at the Tech article I wrote so you'll know how to properly disassemble and repair the hatch pull-down unit. Click on my link at the top of the page in case you discover you need any parts to repair it.

Good luck,

Lon
