Question for anyone with a sport coupe originally equipped with ground effects

I have a 1987 sport coupe that came stock with ground effects but there is something wierd about mine because the rear bumper cover is not equipped with the wraparound spoiler like the irocs and Z28s have. It is just like the rest of the sport coupes without ground effects. I'm just wondering if anyone has a sport coupe with ground effects and if you could tell me what kind of rear bumper cover yours has. If possible pictures would be nice. thanks

I didnt think any of the spoort coupes came with gfx. My old 87 coupe didnt have any. Could quite possibly be someone adding them on down the road, I was gonna do that till i got my iroc

Mine too

Mine also came with the 3 piece spoiler and the gfx. I checked the RPO codes and it originally came with them. Just the rear bumper cover is like a standard camaro with no gfx. Does yours have the ground effects like a Z28 on the bumper cover? I think they could've possibly backed over something and replaced it with a standard one when it was repainted a few years ago.

The only Sport Coupe that came from the factory with gfx was the 1988 SC, which was replaced in '89 by the RS. Your's must have been added by a previous owner or maybe the dealer.

My 87 did

I just ran my RPO codes through the decoder and B84 says extra molding body side also on the rocker panel in place of a Z28 or RS emblem it says camaro and it is definitely a stock emblem because it has the same font as other third gen camaro stickers like the one that goes on the bumper.

If anybody has a sport coupe that they think may have come with ground effects. If so please post a picture of the rocker panel ground effects and of the rear bumper cover. It's always nice to see clean sport coupes.

extra body moulding side could be the door dent protector

True, but what explains the insert in the rocker panel gfx saying camaro? Like I said before it is definitely a third gen camaro emblem because of the type of lettering and it is also an emblem like the Z28 or RS emblem not just a sticker. It doesn't have the door dent protectors on it although they could have been removed before the paint job it got a couple of years ago.

ive seen rocker panels with the camaro lettering on an rs before. POS RS at that and it was an earlier 3rd gen. and it was an insert emblem like the z28/rs ones. I still think someone added them on.

edit: something you could look at is the mounting peice under the car that the rocker panels/gfx mount on and see if it looks like it was cut off another car and welded onto yours. But never know could of had a good welder to make it look factory.

The RS camaro didn't actually come out until 1987 and that was just in certain areas (California). The RS went into full production in 1988 with the Sport Coupe eliminated. That means the Camaro couldn't have been an early camaro RS. As a matter of fact, my car is the only third gen I have ever seen with that camaro emblem on the rocker panel. It may have been welded and I will check but I dont think so cause I've been under the car and I haven't noticed it. Believe me, with all the stupid crap the previous owners have done to my car it wouldnt have been a good job. I'm just finally working out all the mistakes they made.

I have an '88 Sport Coupe. It has the GFX and it has a rear bumper with gfx. I sold the bumper to my buddy with an 87 Z28 and it fit right on, the gfx match up. I didnt have a 3 peice spoiler though. It was one that kinda sorta looks like the 91-92 spoiler, but shorter, and not as good looking. Ive got pics on my website.

Oh yeah, it also has the CAMARO rocker and rear bumper emblems. Theyre what came with SCs instead of RS or Z28. It's nothing special.

I too have a 1988 camaro that I bought new in 1988. The only options I was concerned with were: T-Tops, V8, and ground affects.

I don't recall what it was actually called. Based on this thread I would say it is a sport coupe.

My gfx are just as CogsRS describes.

My rear spoiler is a 3 piece. One piece on the hatch and 1 piece on each rear quarter.

Based solely on what I remember from 1989 in MO, I think the one piece wing started in 89 on RS's. My memory sucks though.

If you are sure your camaros originally came with the gfx that is sweet. I was beginning to wonder about my car even though it looks ompletely stoc. I had a little doubt cause I've only owned it for a little over a year. The only question I have is if your camaro has the option B84 in the RPO codes. I checked the 1988 RPO codes and that is also the only thing that even looks like it could be GFX.

B84: extra molding body side

I'm confused. I've never seen any pre-88 3rdgen Camaro Sport Coupes with GFX before.

Got any pics?

BTW: To those that state they are stock, is your car just built in 87 or does the title show 87 or old as well?

Right now I dont have any pics but I will take some soon. Like I said the only option in 1988 that the sport coupe could have that looked like a gfx option at all was the B84 option which mine has. It is raining at my house now but it should be gone by this afternoon then I can take the pics. Ill try to post them this afternoon.
