$50... buy out your local walmart in the SUV size can of duplicolor spray paint.
so far ive done a 79 firebird and a GTO this way... 79 is a track only trailered race car, and the GTO is a daily driver.... the owner isnt exactly for the "show car" look, but it looked ok when done.
would i do it to a car i want to look nice? no.
would i do it to a 8 color beater? yes.

Rolling it on? Are you crazy? Granted its a race car I suppose, but rolling it on? Just use some rattle cans if you don't want to spend the $200 at Maaco.

It's hard to beat Macco for the $$. No overspray all over your stuff and color coming out every time you blow your nose
If you take the time to remove your trim pieces that they do a crappy job of masking, the paint jobs look pretty decent for a few years.

If you've got access to an air compressor and a spray gun, check eBay. Type in "auto paint" and there is a guy that sells gallons of acrylic enamel auto paint for $34.99/gal. You'll need to buy enamel reducer too (which isn't very expensive), but it will look decent when you're done and it's very affordable.
Painting it with house paint & a roller is probably the cheapest way but it will look like complete crap when you're done.

Spray bomb doesn't look too bad if you do it right, If you have a heated garage or woodstove you can bake the stuff on. I got it about 90 in my dad's garage, the paint looks wetter and more shine. I'd buy about 20 cans of .99 walmart gloss black and another 20 cans of clearcoat, hang some plastic from the ceiling after getting all the dirt off the floor. hold the can about 10inches back and do thin layers to avoid runs- I thnk the biggest problem would be keeping dust and dirt out of the paint spray bomb or not.

I was in autobody at school and we actually rolled on primer. Alot of shops do it if they dont want to have to primer in the booth. like if the booth is taken or something you can just roll or brush on primer like that. Alot of wetsanings and stuff before paint though.
