I have a 1991 Z and like the look of the firebird ones but what setup should I get to make this install easier? The way I read is get it from a 98-02 that about correct? Thanks.
All the Firebirds Dashes are the same, 93-02. I believe the later ones are a darker color.
The 93-02 Firebird Clusters and the 97-02 Camaro clusters all interchange, size wise, wiring is a bit different on the 97 and 98-02 vs the 93-96.

Here is my 95 Firebird Dash with a 97 Camaro Cluster,

To see a 97+ look above in this post, Fatal88's dash is late model. Here is a picture of my '93 dash;

The instrument cluster and vents are the difference.

So those 2 are the only models? I remember sumthing about there being a third that was different....maybe I am smokin sumthing? Anyone know of the interior colors that were available what years? This would be VERY useful in trying to matchup interiors.

What is involved in removing the 4th gen dash? How hard is it to remove the 3rd and 4th dashes?

There are 3 models, the 97-02 Camaro dash looks nearly identical to the 93-02 Firebird one, just rectangular air vents instead of round ones.

I know for a fact that removing the dash is the easiest part !!! Get a screw driver, wrenches and socets and you're hallf way there! See a screw ? Un screw it! See a bolt ? UnBolt it! jsut take off everything imaginable, and off your dash comes. I took mine off in 2 hours i think..... Just for fun when i first got my car..... Then it took me about 1 week to get back to putting it together.... THAT was the hard part. I have a ton of screws left over (not really a ton, like 10 or so) and i kept having to unbolt, and rebolt other pieces. (GM wanted it to look preety, so they overlapped everthing). Now i am in the proccess of re-painted my interior parts with new black paint, and its coming along nicely. Taking awhile though... very lazy. So taking apart is easy, taking apart is hard. I would try and either lable everything, or do what one of my friends does. After he takes off a piece he tapes on all the screws were they came out of, so its all there when you get back to putting it in. Well, that's about the extent of my knowlage... wait i remembered some more. Also, all the cables will want to fall down when you put the dash back in, and they are a pain, i taped mine untill the dash was on, then i removed the tape, the ducts also take some work to fit exactly in place so the rest of the dash will fit in smooth, otherwize, something will press here or there, and get off, and soon you will be breaking plastic in you red haze of anger..... Basically, all dashes require is time and a good memory to put it all back together when you are done, i have done 2 other diffrent types of car dashes and all of them are about the same, bolts on top, bottom, middle, left, right, in spots where you didn't think bolts could go, glovew compartments, thru carpert, and places were you need one of those bendable screwdrivers(not in a 3rd gen though) Whew, all done

ok guys.. few question.. first off i have searched post and been reading alot of things.. anyways.. i am picking up an 86 Iroc this week. it has an 86 corvette 350 engine and t-5 tranny from an 89 iroc in it. what i need to know is..
1.... vss.. what is the best option to get this from, meaning what car?

2 what driven gear and drive gears would i need with a 3.23 rear end?

3.. do i or do i not need a digital dakota box to make the speedo and tach work .. i have seen people say yes and some say no.. so i am confused there.

i already have a 98 camaro dash from a 3.8 v-6 camaro that i was goign to put in my other 3rd gen but am going to use it in the iroc.... speaking of wish does anyone have a manual shift plate for the 98 camaro console?

if anyone can help me please do. ... thanks in advance

I have been following the threads on the dash swaps, and I am pretty sure I want to attempt this with the 84 Camaro I just aquired today. I like the look of the fourth gen Firebird alot, but I gotta ask- does it have the word "Firebird" imprinted on it anywhere? I'd rather not have the "Firebird" text inside a Camaro if I can help it.

too bad it doesnt IMO, the 4th gen dashes are newer looking but aside from that i think they suck, theyre just typical low quality, uninspired gm dashes. Compare for example a 2nd gen dash with a 4th gen, the 2nd gen are just so original and uniquiely designed compared to the 4th gens which are even more boring than that of a newer grand am.

edit: i guess atleast you get a glovebox over the map pocket

Very cool info , specially on the gauge wiring that came out and all the other stuff you guys have played around with to fiqure out the real problems of this swap . I cant wait to get back in and fix some things redo some things and finish my project up this year. Frist swap I ever saw of 4th gen interior was the guy over in swedan that swaped camaro interior into that convertiable . As far as where i got the parts for my swap , I got lucky and a junkyard just down the road had a 94 or 95 cant remember now totalled Firehawk.

Re: whoever says putting a 4th gen dash in is hard...

on mine to make the filler panel I got a good piece of cardboard and cut it to fit just perfect then I took metal ducting tape and wrapped that guy till it was nice and solid then got some vinyl from the fabric store and wrapped it up and it came out pretty good the metal tape makes it so you can get the bend and it hold the shape and some velcro locks it in place

getting the dash in is easy wireing is the pain when I did mine back in 2001 there wasnt a plethora of info out there so I had to compare diagrams and I did a LT1 swap at the same time making my own harness for it too

I would check what the laws are around that. I know its a rather grey area and I think it might not be admisable in court or some weird thing. I vaugely remember this kind of answer when I asked about it to a friend of mine long ago. click here
