Por15 metal etch. Had to postpone por15 paint after etch
Hey guys. Looked around the internet and this forum seems knowledgeable and has many previous por15 posts, but upon looking i cant find an answer for my problem.
Long story short, I applied the por15 metal etch, and as it was fully drying i decided to show off in front of my son and his friends on my dirt bike. Of course, the dog runs out in front as I'm wheeling and I fell and broke my collarbone. After this, the truck frame sat without the por15 applied for day number 4 today. I washed the metal etch very well, but I am worried I caused damage or hindered the curing process by not slapping the por15 paint on asap after the metal etch. Am I worrying for nothing?
My one armed self is going out today to finish, but I am very anxious I messed up by not painting por15 asap after I applied the etch.
Thank you all.

The prerequisite steps for POR-15 are optional (still recommended but I've done it both ways). POR-15 will cure just fine on its own so you are all good.

Unless the metal is pitted and rusty it wont stick good anyway. The metal etch is really just there to make you feel good. Slap the POr15 on there and in a few months hit it with a pressure washer and see what I mean.

The metal etch is phosphoric acid. Helps to give the surface bite for paint. Also converts iron oxide via the phosphorus, turning it black and reducing spread of rust.
It should be washed off completely with water after treatment to eliminate acidity.
If rinsed off it is fine. The surface may now flash rust if bare metal. In that case you can treat again with the etch prior to painting.
if painting shortly after etch and rinse, then use a heat gun or hair drier to drive out all moisture before paint.
