September 2022 COTM "LONG HAULERS ~10yr+ Builds" **Nomination Thread**
This is a Nomination Thread for cars that will compete for this month's Car of the Month honor. The most popularly nominated cars will be compiled into a Voting Thread within a couple weeks.
Nomination Guidelines
*** This month's category ***
LONG HAULERS ~10yr+ Builds (Self Nominations Allowed) -- Any high quality long term (~10yr+) mod project 82-92 Camaro or Firebird... This was a suggested theme by one of our members to bring out some of the long term dedicated but unrecognized (by COTM status) projects that have occurred over the life of this forum.
Nomination Guidelines
- Nominations must be of high quality and generally in working order (This month more allowances will be made for cars in continual process of being upgraded due to the long haul nature). No unrealistic, overly processed images. Please accompany the nomination with,
- a single large, high quality photo
- name of TGO member (with proper caps and spaces)
- year, make, and model of car
- Self Nominations Allowed this month!
- Do not nominate more than one car.
- If you are nominated, please DO go out and take an abundance of good quality photos of your car (multiple angles, interior, engine) and make them publicly accessible (for example via a photo album in your public profile, or some sort of hyperlink to your photo album).
- Past winners can be found in this thread to verify your nomination has not been chosen for COTM previously COTM Winners list - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

Lets work to be reasonable and flexible for this month's nominations to bring out some long term projects and highlight great work over time.

I would like to nominate soloc4. He has been working on perfecting his 84 Z28 with LS2/T56, highly modified Dana 44 C4 rear suspension, hand formed mini tubs to fit 14"wide rear tires, C5 front brakes on 2" drop spindles, weight jacks, and rack and pinion steering. For body mods, Kindigit handles, custom fiberglass nose and rear bumper cover, hood with extractors.
We need a more current pic to do this build justice

I believe Dagwood's 1987 IROC qualifies. He's done an awesome job with his car. Wasn't this his first vehicle to paint himself? It's a beauty

I would like to nominate “ShiftyCapone’s” Camaro as a Long Hauler candidate for COTM. He’s been working on this for more than 10 years and did the “Power Tour” as a 2000+ mile shakedown drive. RESPECT.

Are you defining this as long term COTM quality projects or as long term projects in general?
The reason I ask is because most of the long term projects I see are just that, projects. Which, by definition, is something that isn't necessarily complete. Thus not COTM quality.
Thanks.
I see this may have been answered in the reply below.
Good clarification question - For this month we will be more flexible as the nature of the theme is long haul builds which implies likely mod to point, use it, mod again, etc as one likely path. So lets go with the car needs to represent great long term work on it and if not operable now, needed to previously have reached a state of operational status in the past as part of the mod build cycle. So for example if a great example of long term mod work was operational a year ago but now is presently getting another upgrade like a new turbo upgrade but is not currently operational it would still be eligible for this month.
Lets work to be reasonable and flexible for this month's nominations to bring out some long term projects and highlight great work over time.

I've never nominated anyone before however this month's criteria has more appeal to me than other months. This choice has always been one of my favourites here at thirdgen.
I think AlkyIROC and his drag racing "L98" 87 Camaro fit the bill.
I mean how could you not like it? Flat black, flames, tunnel rammed BBC. All business.
I know that if Alky's local track hadn't shut down a few years back, I would have the chance to see this beast in action. I missed it by that much. Maybe the two of us will see the track next year.

Re: September 2022 COTM "LONG HAULERS ~10yr+ Builds" **Nomination Thread**
Since my car has been officially nominated, I felt that I would give a few details about the project. I started the current rendition of the car in 2004 on a challenge from my brother when we found a ’92 Corvette roller chassis at a swap meet and he told me that I couldn’t put it in my 3rd gen. I started with the rear IRS because it would be “easier” and included widening the wheel wells an 1.5” on each side and modifying the geometry in order to retain the rear seat. The front was more difficult because the frame rails had to be sectioned and new rails fabricated and installed at a 13* angle for proper upper control arm anti-dive geometry. The K-member was custom fabricated to accommodate the LS engine, rack and pinion steering, and is 2” wider due to the Camaro’s increased track width and improve the front slip angle. Coil-overs were utilized for adjustments and packaging simplicity. The Corvette ABS was used because it came with the roller and Vintage Air HVAC was used for better access to the engine. The entire electrical system was redesigned for safety and to incorporate the LS, Vintage Air, and Dakota Digital gauges. A Baer brakes are 14”, 6 piston units which were prototypes when I got them in 2013 and the DANA 44 TruTrac was new to the market at the time also. I drove the car for the first time in September of 2019, 25 years after the last time I drove it. The car is currently blown apart for paint, hence the “Long Hauler” status. It will look completely different next year from the current pictures. Enjoy!
