Hi i went to two auto body shops one quote was 10k the other place was 6k i think, my question is how much for a factory paint job i have tiny spots of surface rust and a few tiny dents two of the biggest ones are right above the windshield i can send pictures if needed.

The cost of a paint job can vary wildly based on all kinds of criteria. The line of paint the will use, is it a color change, skill level of the shop. The area the shop is in, IE rural vs urban and Nebraska vs New York. The price will also vary on whether or not the shop wants the job, the one for $10K probably doesn't want the job so they bid high.

If you aren't looking for a show car I would do the prep work yourself and take it to a maaco for the spray. Just be sure they will use a good paint.

3-5k should get you a good paintjob. Wouldn't fool with MAACO.

Maaco results vary widely because you get what you pay for. If you pay the bare minimum then they will only scuff and squirt with uber cheap paint. No trim removed. No wet sanding. They will probably be using a single stage paint. They do offer higher levels and if you do the prep work yourself and don't pay for the bottom of the barrel price you'll get a factory level paint job.

Also, Each Maaco is independent of the other. They just lease the name and a few of there products.
I was looking for a place to get my moms car painted becouse it was pealing and faded really bad.
The Maaco I found had some really nice looking Classic "Hot Rod" type cars in its parking lot and that told me that at least they have the potential to make it look good.

Its a $1,000.00 Single Stage Paint Job and I'm impressed. Its been about 6 years now and still looks good. .
Check out how they did the trunk. I took a really good look at the car and not a drip,smudge or mistake I could find.

If you have any kind of work area at your home, consider doing all the prep work at home, and then RENT a paint booth and spray it yourself.

Ultimately, you gotta come-to-Jesus on your budget and time-line on these cars.

Sometimes rattle-can touch up is as good as its gonna get.

I'm more of a "mechanicals" and driving guy. When I'm white-knuckling, I'm not looking at my paint. Which probably explains why my paint looks so bad. Mechanicals are coming along though. Little bit at a time.

I'm old, and I've come-to-Jesus on the reality that there are a lot of my projects which will not get finished. After all, its the journey - not the destination.

I went to a local shop and they said that the max price for a paint job plus all the prep work would be 5,000.

Different question but i get a lot of thumbs up and compliments even thought my car has some dings some miss aligned things, why would they compliment me when my car isn't even finished?

Maybe they just like to see your car anywhere but the junk yard.

Besides there are many out there that have saved cars from the crusher at great cost and hardship on there own part and understand the satisfaction that comes with it.

Or it could just be that they enjoy the style of the car.

As far as prepping your own car , you could then spray it yourself I guess.

I do not see a shop giving you any guarantees on a car that has not been prepped by them so you would have to ask them if they would "even" consider it.

They also have this warranty where if for some reason the clear coat or or something is wrong with the paint they will fix it for free but only if you still own the car. they have been in business for 22 years and one of the workers have been doing auto body for 40 years

I always gave props to Third Gens, Monte SS or Grand Nationals no matter the condition.. you don’t see those cars around anymore.. they stand out now..

My paint job ran about $7000 and that was including all the parts and stripe kit I had to buy.. I also did a cash deal so it would maybe have been a $10k job..

They took the whole car apart and painted everything and matched the factory paint.. even fixed some warping in the front spoiler and saved all the original emblems.. He says,”I don’t just paint cars.. I restore them..” They offer lifetime guarantee on the work as long as it’s properly maintained as well.

He said you can get a guy to spray it for $2k but it won’t look nice up close.. for $5k-$10k you can get a nice looking factory looking job and custom paint can go $15k-$30k+

It was a shop that does high end restorations.. he just did a 63 split window that got appraised at $140k..

It’s funny to go to a cruise night with a nice third gen because you’re surrounded by 60’s and 70s muscle and a million Corvettes and everyone gathers around the third gen.. I had some kid who said he never saw an IROC at one of these and asked if he could take pictures.. said he always hoped he’d see one..

Third Gens get attention in any condition..
