Cleaning or painting the heater / hvac box
Doing some engine bay prep on my 85 and would like to know what you guys have done and recommend doing to the heater box in the engine bay. I am going to keep the factory A/C and want the box to look good. Not sure how the paint will come out on the plastic top

Looks really good and blends in with the white
Im getting a lot of spotting when I paint it with the plastic enamel paint I am using, it looks like the paint is laying down and "spreading" out evenly. Is this due to oil or something in the plastic? I prepped the surface with some cleaning and then wiping with lacquer thinner similar to painting metal

When I did mine I sanded it down with 120 grit. Got it real nice then sprayed. I just used black spray paint nothing fancy. Came out great
EDIT: ops sorry i was talking about the factory non ac box... Its hard plastic or like metal from what i remember...

Wipe it with acetone or laqueer thinner. That separation is called "fish eyes" and it usually happens with painting plastics. Also I have real good luck with Rustoleum 2X paint and primer in one. It keeps the "fisheyes" down and adheres well to plastic.
