Re: March 2016 COTM **Voting Thread**

Thank you for the opportunity to be considered for car of the month for march. This is my 86 Iroc Z28 I've named "Darth Z"

The car started off as a butchered up iroc, the tbi motor was replaced with a slouch 350 with 305 heads on it. I have touched every bolt and done all of the work on the car myself. Currently it has a 355 lt1 swap done to it, putting down about 400 to the wheels c6 vette 5 spoke wheels, t56 trans, 3.73 gears, and c7 z51 brembo brakes from Scott over at Bigbrakeupgrade.
The car came with the 90-92 blisters on it, so I kept them, and got the matching ground effects, and decided to go with a firebird style wing.

Re: March 2016 COTM **Voting Thread**

Hi Everyone,

A huge thank you goes out to Chazman for the nomination and to Kymmee for seconding it! Wow this months competition is insane, some of the thirdgens I love the most were nominated and it's a HUGE honor to have my car compete for COTM with them all! Best of luck to everyone, this is going to be a great one to watch!!

My car is an '87 IROC-Z, L98 car with 11k original miles on it. I have owned other cars that are more "show ready" and that are quicker, but this car is a special one to me and the favorite of my collection. It is a true survivor in regards and has been a tremendous amount of fun to own and drive in the nearly four years that I have owned it now.

It's special to me for a number of reasons... I spent years looking for the right low mile thirdgen to buy; national searches, driving all over New England looking at over 30 cars in person, etc.... I traded my first ever car towards this one that I had owned for 17 years at the time which was my 86 Camaro that I had fully restored as a kid. It was the right thing for me to do and really renewed my love for collector cars. When I got it, it had 9k miles on it. It is the most loaded '87 that I know of that had over $8k in factory options on it (To me, that's alot for a car with a base price of $12k). The car has factory leather, L98 350, T-tops, Bose, rear window louvers, etc.

It was an executive car when new, racking up 3800 miles when sold to it's first owner. What's really cool is that the original oil change sticker from that mileage is still in the door jamb. The car has original gatorback tires, GM floor mats, GM belts and hoses, all original paint, etc.

To be completely honest, it is not perfect and that is something I love about it. It has some very minor age patina... the tops of the door panels have the typical small cracks (just starting)... The factory paint under special fluorescent lights has a small amount of acid rain... There are some small spots on the seats... but that's something that I love about it. It's a true survivor in every sense of the word. I have spent a good amount of time detailing it all up since I got it and it cleans up nice

Each year I host a small fall cruise somewhere scenic in New England and for three years I drove this car. It is a tremendous amount of fun to drive! It's very comfortable, goes good, breaks traction often, and I constantly get compliments on it. It's an honest super fun tight car and I feel very fortunate to own it, it brings me much happiness, especially during the occasional tough times in life.... I can't wait for the roads to clear off up here in New England so I can get it out of hibernation! Here are some pics and again, best of luck to everyone nominated!!

Amazing how a $15 option can put you at the top of the pricing list. Nothing else to order to increase the price. My car is loaded and you got me by $15. Door edge guards.

And the first thing I did was remove them when I got the car lol! I still have them of course but on a white car it gave the appearance of the door gap looking artificially too big haha...

Re: March 2016 COTM **Voting Thread**

Thank you for the nomination. My '89 IROC is a factory original, non-modified survivor with only 14,800 miles. This is a 350 TPI car with a 700r4 automatic both of which run amazing for their age. The car still has all of its original engine components, alternator, AC compressor, radiator hoses/clamps, spark plugs and Packard spark plug wires. The car also boasts its original factory Bright Blue metallic paint finish and interior including factory floor mats. I replaced the original ZR rated Gatorbacks when I bought the car with BFG Pro Comp II tires and I bagged and stored the Gatorbacks. The Bose Delco sound system was refurbished last year, functions well and has very decent sound. The car came with its original owner’s manual, brochures, service records, as well as diaries of usage which was maintained by the two previous owners. These diaries contains a detailed account of each time the car was used including beginning and ending mileage, reason for trip and destination. I have continued to make entries into these booklets as the current owner. My first third gen was an 82 Z28 which I drove in the 80’s and sold in the 90’s. I always missed that car and have always held a fondness for this generation of F-bodies. I took these pics at a windmill farm near my hometown on a sunny day because I liked how the paint's reflection made the clouds appear to have been painted into the car's finish. My car is used mainly on weekends when I take my wife for drives or to car shows. My two teenage boys have also gained an appreciation for these cars and I hope that will carry on the tradition of caring for this car as others have done for 27 years. Thank you again for the nomination I'llrockya and DonW. I consider it an honor to have my car included in this fine group of outstanding IROCs. Here are a few photos of my ’89 Z.

Thanks Linson, I really like the first shot of the front end of my car. I took that one on a different day when It was cloudier. Man! I love the stock rides. My 1985 would fit right in, but it wasn't nominated, so here are the most recent pictures and videos of my car.......

Most people know it, but its a 1987 Iroc with 800 RWHP, t56, 9" rear and over 20 PSI boost!

Here it is being filmed for up upcoming "Netflix potential" street racing series.

Thanks for the nomination!
My Camaro has been in the garage since '95. I bought it to replace my '70 Z/28 which I had sold just weeks before.
The car still has it's original L69 HO motor and t-5 transmission.
The rear end has been swapped to a nine bolt with 3.23 gears and PBR disc brakes.
The interior is forth gen leather with an added overhead console.
Speedo was swapped out for a 145 mph unit.
About the only other mod is the hood blisters.

Here's a shot of my hood after polishing the car. This is factory paint! I used Wolfgang Uber Compound with a Lake Country CCS pad on a Porter Cable DA polisher. I finished it up with some Meguiar's products.

Looks fantastic Scott. What color CCS pad did you use with that?

Currently it has a 355 lt1 swap done to it, putting down about 400 to the wheels c6 vette 5 spoke wheels, t56 trans, 3.73 gears, and c7 z51 brembo brakes from Scott over at Bigbrakeupgrade.
The car came with the 90-92 blisters on it, so I kept them, and got the matching ground effects, and decided to go with a firebird style wing...

Adding to my 3rd Gen video collection right now so I can listen to it in surround sound, thanks! BTW I voted & good luck!

Thanks DonW, I saw this color on an IROC for the first time back in the 80's and immediately fell for it.
