My 1989 Trans Am

Hello! Seeking opinions from everyone on my 1989 TA. This is my first car as well as my first third Gen. I plan to keep the car entirely stock (aside from needing new paint :/) i believe the car is well optioned after seeing some other 3rd Gens around town or on this site. Anyhow, let me know your thoughts on my car! It's a 350 tpi with a stock 700r4, ws6 and 75,000 miles.

Replaced that radio with the one above as I disliked the previous owners radio selection..

Hey Justin...Welcome aboard!

That's a good looking car. And a 5.7L to boot. Can't beat that for a first car.

It's definitely been a great car. I bought it in March just before my 16th birthday. Great looking car you have as well.

Great looking car. Enjoy it.

Just a question for the group here - I always understood that you couldn't get a 5.7 liter with T-tops which was one reason I got a 5.0 with mine, along with a manual tranmission. Am I missing something here or am I just incorrect?

I've met a few people who said the same thing and were surprised my car was a factory 5.7 with t tops. I guess there just isn't a lot of them. A buddy of mine has a 1988 Camaro rs with t tops but it's a 305

Re: My 1989 Trans Am

GM in their infinite wisdom only offered a 5.7 with t-tops with in 1989 and I believe in 1987 for export only. Why?, well that I don't have the answer to that, more than likely it was to **** us off.

Camaro's could get the 5.7 with t-tops in different years than bird owners, I believe they got them in 88 among others.

Re: My 1989 Trans Am

I'd run the RPO codes before running around telling people you have a 350 car. If I had a nickel for everyone (PO) who thinks every V8 they see is a 350...

ps: keep it the same colors when you repaint (IMHO)

I completely agree, although it is not an incommon occurence in 89. My friend has an unmolested (but in need of TLC) example of such a car.

Re: My 1989 Trans Am

If its an original 350 the 8th # in the vin should be an 8.

Definitely plan on keeping the color. Don't have the Rpo codes but I've ran what I can from the Vin and it does say it's a 350. Not trying to say the Vin is always right though lol. I've seen some 305 tpis and the alternator is on the opposite side along with the ac compressor
