Cheap chrome wanted/needed?
Considering going into a side venture doing cheap chrome plating. Before you ask or warn about doing it know that I have been in this industry a long time. Worked at and helped setup in shops in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.
We all know of the high end chrome platers out there and also the no so high end but still charge ridiculous prices.
I came across this idea seeing guys at these shops polish their own parts and get them plated. Many were subpar results but they didn't car as it looked nice from the road. So if there are others just wanting it to look good I'll offer it.
What I am looking into is about the equivilent to a Maaco paint job. The better the car is to start the better the finished product is but certainly never a high end finish.
The process would be strip, polish, and plate. No repairs. If there are deep pits in the part then there would most likely be pits in the finished piece.
This would be a clean new finish probably best for parts not highely seen or for parts in good shape to begin with.
Prices would be around 1/3 to 1/2 of most chrome plating shop costs.
Be great for suspension, brackets, nuts, bolts, covers.... or something you fabbed up.
Id love to get feedback on this. If enough interest I can get the ball rolling and start this up.
Largest items I would want to do to start with would be valve covers and air breathers. No axle housings or similiar sized items.
If there are some that are willing to give this a try and post before and after pictures for others get ahold of me. See if we can work something out.
