OLD SCHOOL HOOD LOUVERS ???

last month while at "CRUISIN THE COAST" there were cool cars of every description & type . while looking at some old school "HOT RODS" my nephew and his son asked about the hood louvers . while i have never seen them on a 3rd. gen (i did search) i'm sure someone has done it . i know all the pro's & con's about them but i can't wondering how they would look on our car's . (again , i did search) if you have any pics. of our car's with them please post . thank's in advance .......

Re: OLD SCHOOL HOOD LOUVERS ???

You mean like the punched hole type louvers??? If yes then I say no it would not look good as that is a very old school thing to do and the 3rd gens are too new lookng to pull them off well.

yes that is the type of louvers i'm talking about . seen for the most part on old "hot rods" . i would just like to see a picture of a 3rd. gen with them . i'm sure that someone has done it . p.s. i know they are very "OLD" school . it was my generation that invented/made them popular . ( Damn I'm Old !!! )

Re: OLD SCHOOL HOOD LOUVERS ???

I dont think that would look good at all on our cars. However someone has made the fake plastic louvers functional and out of metal. It took a good amount of fabrication but looked good because it didnt change the overall look of the car drastically. Now if you could somehow do something like that as well as make a airbox that sealed to it with a vacuum flapper door setup that would be awesome. Here is an older thread dealing with this topic. Do a search of "functional iroc hood louvers" and you'll probably find more threads dealing with it.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fabr...ut-making.html

But like the others said if you want it all over the hood like a 40s/50s hotrod forget it. Will look in bad taste. That looks good on vintage cars not on 80s muscle.

Re: OLD SCHOOL HOOD LOUVERS ???

Several months ago, a louvred thirdgen hood was for sale in KC ($300). While I only saw pictures, I thought it looked cool. I actually thought that if I ever built another thirdgen, I might try one. Each to his own right, Uncle?

Well, Uncle is old enough to have discovered dirt--I think he's the oldest geezer on TGO. In comparison I'm a pup. I was in high school when the Stones hit our shores if that provides an idea. More respect for your elders, Confuzed .

if this is true then I have some major respect for you. That's amazing to me that someone can hold a hobby and passion for working on cars that long.

73 and still wrenching on cars?? I bow down to you sir!

Yeah...I guess that's old enough. I'm 50, and the way I'm going, I'll be lucky to even make it to 73. I'm also retired -Navy (in my sig BTW) - No Veit Nam though...my buddy I work with was also in Nam for a few years..nothing but respect for you guys.

-but I see we had simular MOS's (is that what you called it in the Air Force?) - I was a Gas Turbine Technician (Mechanical). BTW - I was just pullin your chain Tom....

As far as your original post....sorry, I think those vents look great on the old style hot rods...like on Model T's etc...
