Gun Metal Grey

Just curious about this color. I haven't seen it on many cars. What years was it available on and was it available on both F-bodies? I have seen it on more Firebirds and only on 1 camaro. Pics would be nice if you could post them. Thanks.

it may not be the prettiest color, but you can spray paint(duplicolor) any scratches, rust spots(with proper prep of course!), and nobody but you will know.. unless you spray too much and it runs.. but if you spray it right.. no one will ever know. Hell half the hood on the 87 was out of a freakin spray can.

Thanks for the compliments on color guys. I looked on my extra can of paint I had mixed and it said it was from 88-91. I havn't seen to many cars this color at all. I plan to get 17" ROH Snyper Rims and then this is where i need your help. I am repainting it the same color. Do I go with a Cowl hood or SS? Do I put black racing stripes on or not? WHat kind of spoiler should I get??
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

It was on my 87, and I'm fairly certain I've seen it on many earlier years as well. I'm sure if you post in the History/Restoration board someone will know.

If you want gunmetal, go with the gun metal color that dodge puts on the viper--that color is great! It's still sort of sleeperish, but it is an excellent deep, glossy, metallic paint. It just looks good. "Gray" will not even go through your head when you see the dodge gunmetal.

get a cowl hood, a z28 high rise wing, and some black stripes. also get an alarm, cause ill be snooping around your area after you get it all done i'd get some torque thrust 2's or some 18x8 come iroc rims.

Remember, medium gray is the most common and most often confused with color for the Camaros. Gunmetal isn't even listed in the Camaro White Book as being available.

have you seen the gunmetal Viper? very nice! I think you should use the paint scheme from it instead of going with black stirpes. I dont remeber exactly, but they were another shade of silver or pewter. Helluva lot a better than black stripes. Look for that viper..it was some kinda special edition option. my 2 cents

If Mine were a solid color it'd look just like Bill K's, but i have the 2 tone option like un4gvn. I have the silver/black stripe though instead of the orange. I'll have a pic up in a day or 2.

This one might be more silver than gunmetal, but I think it looks real good. Something looks odd about those hood blisters though. They look like stock '91-'92 pieces, but something isn't right.

Arn't the hood blisters to far apart on that picture you posted. I think thats what looks weird. They are supposed to be closer together..

I like the gun metal grey color, it makes me think of a gun. A metal gun.

I thouht that it was a dark bluish grey like the second Viper. The others just look grey or silver.

They are too far apart. From the looks of it they just bolted them onto a flat hood.

The second one is the one I was talking about. I saw it in motor trend and I don't think it had stripes like that one. However, like squirleybird was saying, I think a lighter shade of silver/pewter could look really good. It would look best, IMO, if the stripes were very close to the rest of the paint, so that you have to be pretty close to see them. I have seen several black cars with really dark gray stripes and I think it looks better than plain black. The stripes on the viper color would be the same way I think. Keep in mind, they should be very close.

Of course you could just not get stripes and save a LOT of $$$.

I guess not doing stripes would probably save alot of money... Umm what color shade are you guys refferring to then? You don't think I should repaint it Gun Metal?? I bet your thinking of that Dodge Light Silver color like they put on those concords or whatever?? Is that what U mean? If you could show me the shade of grey I would appreciate it.
I think your refferring to ghost stripes cort351w. I suppose that would look cool. Would you got lighter paint and darker stripes or the other way???

THANKS!

The '91-'92 Z28 hood is also flat, so the blisters should have looked right if they were spaced properly.

NO that is incorrect the 91-92 Z hood is not flat. It is exactly the same hood as on Irocs and they simply replaced the lovers with the power blisters that are larger than the lovers. And stick out around the indents in the hood. Trust me I own one.

Hehe... once again, an opp to post my pic. Gunmetal Grey 91 GTA. At first, I wasn't too crazy about the color but it grows on you. I love this color now.

GMG happens to be one of my favorite colors for our cars, right next to black. My car is presently that color, 2 tone with silver GFX. I'm planning on a full repaint in about 2 years, keeping the gunmetal but going solid instaed of 2 tone.

Seeing as it needs a door and quarter panel repainted to fix a couple of very deep scratches properly, not to mention I plan on adding 91/92 GFX, a 91-92 Z28 wing, and a 2 1/2 cowl hood, I might as well do it all at once and just repaint the whole dang car. I also want to do it with silver racing stripes like I saw in a photoshopped picture. This is what I want.... but with a regular cowl hood, and I'm lookin for S10 Extreme wheels too. Its a long way off though.... need a new motor first. Then I'll worry about looks.

Car: too many ...
I really like GMG. I plan to powdercoat my 18" rims GMG (5 star 2000 Cobra R knockoffs). I will also be painting my calipers GMG and I will have a single fat GMG stripe up the middle of my car. This is all going on a black hardtop B4C with a black interior and grey accents

Should hold me over till I save up enough for the EVO II ... then things will get out of hand!!

The bottom of my Camaro is gunmetal grey, and I think it's a great color.

However I think if I were painting my car differently, I couldnt manage the whole car being that color....the bottom would have to be silver : )

All of you have wonderful cars, too. Can't wait to get mine back from the paint shop.
