Post your Camaro RAM AIR/WS6 hoods

I am fighting with myself about getting one of these hoods and would love to hear feedback from persons with them on their car. Show us a pic and let us know what you think about your RAM AIR hood!

Re: Post your Camaro RAM AIR/WS6 hoods

There was a local guy here who had a car with one that was damn near identical to yours. It made that car completely hideous, but you clearly already like the hood so you'd probably like his car.

Re: Post your Camaro RAM AIR/WS6 hoods

See, i don't LOVE the hood. I need about an extra inch of clearence on my intake. (Tired of the aid filter scrubbing) I just can't decide on something like the RAM AIR or just a little 2in cowl. I like the cowl hoods but don't like how sharp their raised lines are. If i could find a cowl with smoother lines id be convinced

Re: Post your Camaro RAM AIR/WS6 hoods

You dont like the Cervinis cowls? The one I used to have seemed to be a copy of the cervinis style hood. I liked it but it was just in rough shape so I decided to get rid of it.

The best looking hoods these cars have ever had are the factory hoods, and I just gave up on finding anything that looked better. Do you know if you can cut away the underside bracing to get hood clearance?

I think if I had the money to toss at an aftermarket hood and just HAD to have more hood clearance, it'd be an "SS" hood, even though I have issues with those too, or a Cervinis style cowl hood. But some people like the big bulgky style cowls, if so this aint gonna be the one for you, lol.

But i'd rather do a Spectre low profile dual snorkel cold air intake setup than do an aftermarket hood these days. The stock IROC hoods are just too good looking to get rid of. Plus the dual snorkel CAI is pretty expensive, but cheaper than a hood. The only hang up is relocating the battery, which can get complicated.

(Car belongs to IROC-Dennis)

Plus the faster your car is, the cooler it is that you have a factory hood on it.

Z28FAST1's hood is perfect really. see this: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/post...9-post546.html

Not sure which one he used. Ill have to PM him.

I have though about doing the cold air intake and i am sure its worth a couple horsepower, but i think it looks goofy on carb setups. Id rather pull cold air in from cowl induction then a spectre setup.

Thats a goodmark steel hood. It's pretty much everything I dislike about cowls. But they are popular... Looks way better than a ram air hood.

Always loved that hood. Wonder if the sharp body line down the center could be "sanded' down to match the soft thirdgen body line in the center of the hood?

I like this option.

Re: Post your Camaro RAM AIR/WS6 hoods

I don't think those hoods look good on a Camaro. The Camaro is all about sharp bulky lines. I prefer the stock louver Hood, but if I did go aftermarket, a small cowl would be alright.

Re: Post your Camaro RAM AIR/WS6 hoods

The first pics that Kyle posted are pics of my old camaro.... I loved the hood it gave me the air I needed for my 450/485 388cid lt1. Yes allot of people don't like this hood but then again I was going for something diff. I think it made the car stand out and once I put the stripes on it it even looked better!!!!!

Re: Post your Camaro RAM AIR/WS6 hoods

I am late getting to this thread, but I too have been debating this hood. I bought a new "OER" louver hood that arrived damaged, and really didnt fit well (got a full refund). It still sits in an unused pile in my garage. I cant find a good OE hood, and am terrified of glass hoods that inevitably need much blocking and fitting to look any good. I really dont like the look of cowl hoods(unless we're talking 1st gen) I am interested to know which way you went, and if anybody knows of a well fitting, wave free glass ws6.

I have this hood on my car and I love it. fit was good..but could be a lil better, sorry no pics. imo I think if u have modern wheels and even the areo ground effects it really pulls it all together... just my 2 cents

Re: Post your Camaro RAM AIR/WS6 hoods

Don't know how to post pics from phone but check out my album. Have the ram air on an ls swapped 91. Bought the car with the hood. Planned on changing inch it cause I thought was hideous but as I tweaked the suspension and lowered it the hood grew on me a lot. Sounds dumb but on a well stanced camaro/bird I think it looks great. Plus I was able to fit the huge lsxrt 102 intake under it which the guys in the fourth gen chorus have to cut into their windshield to fit.

Some cars pull off the WS6 hood really well.. Some make the car look like ****. All depends on the setup and color of the car

Re: Post your Camaro RAM AIR/WS6 hoods

I too wrestled with this decision for a while, my advice is........do what looks best in your eye, don't make decisions based on what "others" think. First comment I usually get about the car from others is how much they like the hood. Just normal folks, not carshow judges. Build it for YOU....not someone else's opinion on a website. Re: Post your Camaro RAM AIR/WS6 hoods

Forgot to mention......with the functional ram-air box and the big K&N filter, the car seems to be breathing a bit better than the stock air cleaner setup. Sounds kinda neat at idle also, sorta like a bull snorting

Re: Post your Camaro RAM AIR/WS6 hoods

Are you running the hawks ram air box setup for the camaro or firebird. If camaro does it work pretty well? Been contemplating getting for mine. Have an LS swap and not sure if it would work right. I did have the factory dual breather though and it worked. Restrictive but it all fit together.

Re: Post your Camaro RAM AIR/WS6 hoods

One final note about the hood selection......when I decided to repaint my car after 22 years, I went over the near-mint body to determine what, if any, rust repairs would need done before the repaint. The only spots on the body that were rusted...the wells in the hood where the sharp corners on the phony louvers had rubbed through the paint. Of course, water would also collect in these depressions contributing to the problem. Decided right then and there that the original IROC hood with "loofers" would not be going back on...poor design. Sorry about the rant, wonder if anybody else had that problem. I would suspect so

That is a great thread for hood shopping.

Check out post 22 of camaroguy18's car. i don't like that hood but some people can make it work. Rockjay81's looks good but the hood makes the wheels look too plain.

My favorite is the sunoco and the SS hood. I kind of like the 2" cowl from thirdgenranch. it looks more like a 69 cowl.
