I am no fan of the 4th generations at all. There are some in the 3rd gen I don't care for. The ultra stripped down models. I remember when they were new looking at these Camaros and Firebirds with no t tops, flat hoods, no spoiler on the back, very plain. They almost looked incomplete. Or some of those early low end 3rd gen birds with bright red taillight lenses (versus the cool tinted ones on higher end cars). It seems that time has claimed a large percentage of these ones.

Third Gen Firebirds are simply the Best ever made. GM created legends from the third gen, like the 1989 Turbo T/A and who can forget the 1991 Formula Firehawks, both Street and Competition packages. The Firefox with a C4 independent Rear. Idk if any have heard of the Firebird Formula VHO, only three were made in 1988. If GM wouldve given the blessing for production, there would be supercharged Formula 350s in every dealership. I like fourth gens due to their power, how simple an intake, header and cam change increase power and not change driveability. Im all for LSX swaps into third gen Firebirds. First and second gens deserve respect and will never die, Pontiac will never die

It's a matter of opinion. I personally think the late 2nd gen is hideous, as are almost all cars from that era. I like a few early 70's cars such as the 70 (Although same styling from 1968-) to 1973 Corvette, 1970 Mustang fastback, 1971-1972 Road Runner, 1970 Challenger, 1970 Charger. As for late 70's cars, only one I can think of that I remotely like is the oddly styled Ferrari 308 GTS, and it's still on the ugly side.



Two of the best looking 70's cars I would have to say would be a 1971-1972 Road Runner and a 1970 Mustang fastback. Just wasn't a good time for cars after about 1973. 1980-1982 of course is when some good looking cars came back around. The 1980-1982 Corvette, and of course third gens.

Great example. LT1 Camaros are a hit or miss car IMO. They have to be done up pretty well for me to like them.

I'm a huge fan of their front end looks, which is why I still love the '68-'73 Corvette, but I just never saw anything in the sloping rear, with the tail lights angled out. Nice cars, but I'm just picky about details.

My least favorite camaro would have to be the mid seventies 2nd gen, 74-76 or so with the solid bumper.. I can't stand that model. My favorite camaro is of course the third gen IROC or Z-28's followed by the 1970-72 split bumpers then the 1st gens, 98-02 LS1 4th gens and finally the LT1's.

In pontiacs its a hard choice, I'm going to take the 98-02 WS6 first, 1977 bandit trans am second, third gen GTA and WS6 trans ams then the 1st gen models last. Each generation has its own beautiful models though...

The best Camaro is the 3rd Gen, particularly the Z28 (just bought one!), followed by the 1970 1/2 split bumper. The 3rd Gen looks best when set up low and balanced, like a road racer; the 1970 to me looks best when it is set up like an early Prostocker with big and littles, a slight rake and even a hood scoop! And wheelie bars?!?!
Camaros are as American as baseball and apple pie- the 4th gen is just a nasty looking plastic Canadian product- no offense to our cousins north of the border...although I will take that LS1 engine, thank you very much!
And the 5th gen is based on an Australian chassis for heaven's sake!

They're definitely tacky and dated. They scream 70s, but are IROCs really any different? IROCs are very firmly rooted in the 1980s, but they're still beautiful cars.

I think early 4th Gen Camaro's and Firebirds are the ugliest. About 98 and up they got better. For Camaro I think 1st and 3rd Gen's look the best. I owned a sweet silver blue 84 Z-28 with t-tops when new and loved it. All third gen Camaro's consistently looked better than the Firebird cousins during the whole third generation, but the 87-90 GTA's rule the roost for the ultimate 3rd gen. I have a bright red 89 GTA right now and a second gen 76 T/A with a 72 front end on it. For Firebirds, I think 2nd Gen T/A's are my first personal favorite. Who can beat the lines of a 70-73 model or the Bandit looking 77-78 models ( I owned a 77 Bandit). Next would be the GTA's and then 98-02 models. Although first gen Camaro's are hot I am not to fond of first gen birds but with the right options they can still be sweet. I think 3rd gen's don't get as much respect because the quality control was not the greatest and they turned into rattle traps pretty quickly. Most were also driven into the ground and if you owned the Firebird version, Pontiac purist shunned them because they had a Chevy motor (just like second gen models with the Olds 403). Bottom line you have to take each car separately and measure it for value.

The poll was wich gen is the ugliest, but it doesn't mean "ugly"....so it should be which gen is least favorite maybe? Anyway, like I stated you can make broad generalizations about favorite or least favorite but there is something of value in any gen model. Each car should be measured as a "car" and not a classification. Nice example of a 4th gen and keep them pix coming!

Well, the high torque and tall gearing definitely help.

Maybe a beat up LO3 barely squeezing out 150hp with a open differential is slow, but those of us with a well running TPI actually have a somewhat quick car.


On topic, I like all F-bodies. They all have good points, and i even have a taste for the least popular years. However, i do prefer the Firebirds from the 2nd gen on.

And when i say F-bodies, i mean F-bodies. Not the bloated 2010s on a sedan platform. I ran into someone on Camaro5, that thinks that just because the 4th digit of the VIN is an F, and the owner's manual says F-car, that it's an F-body.

Regardless of which gen Firebird or Camaro you own, we don't need to get excited about what is better than what. Look at it this way, our beloved F bodies never got disgraced like Fords Mustang did in the 70's with the Mustang 2 which was built on a Pinto platform. Lol

While I hate 93-02 Camaros, LT1 cars and LS1 cars for different reasons (the firebirds are marginally better), when set up well they can look nice - yours looks nice. Definitely not ugly. But it's not because the car is an inherently good looking car, it's just because you've made the right tweaks to it, even if the hood is a bit much - when it comes to cars like that that sort of thing is usually for practical reasons which excuses it.

Funny that so many seem to like the late 4th gen cars. If it wasn't for the LS1 they wouldn't have anything going for them. That big stupid grill and fish eye headlights on the Camaro, and the Trans Am dressed up in the muscular Batman suit with bulges and nipples. Together they're two of the most stupid looking cars ever produced.





I suppose I still don't consider the 5th gen as a Camaro... It's the 99 GTO concept car with a minor restyling. It's hideous, true, but it doesn't share the Camaro identity. At least the late 4th gens were carrying on earlier styling.




The 1974 Z28 deserves at least a special honorable mention. Available in a plethora of diarrhea inspired colors, and with it's super disco stripes, it's easily one of the ugliest F-bodies ever.

I just expect a car to be functional and tasteful, two things the 98 T/A, 5th gen, and GTO concept aren't. They're impossibly hard to see out of, and gaudy for no reason. The form is clearly receiving more emphasis than real world function. I don't want a car that looks cool, I want a car that actually is cool. Those cars are just bad taste exemplified.

Styling is very subjective, but you are wrong.

When I rumble out of my residential neighborhood in my 01 WS6, every boy under the age of 12 stops riding his bike, playing catch, or whatever he is doing and stares with his mouth hanging open until I'm out of sight. I trust thier judgment on automotive styling.

Ugliest f-body? That's an easy one! 74-77 Camaro with aluminum bumpers. Yeeech.

My 4 door sunfire is more functional than any car on this thread. You sacrifice a few things for style.

I've driven a 5th gen camaro. other than a impossibly small amount of leg room in the back seat, I found it to be a comfortable car. Can't speak on headroom though, I was driving a vert.

The point is that you can actually SEE out of a thirdgen. You can't see out of a 4th gen (ask people who have driven one for any length of time, that aren't absolutely in love with the car and they will tell you). And WHY can't you see out of those cars? Because GM wanted to make them look different.

I don't find the 4th gens any harder to see out of than a third gen. And I do have seat time in both. Styling wise I like the 4th gen but prefer the third gen.

If you want blind spots look at newer cars. Thanks to safety regs the newer cars have taller doors, taller trunks and thicker a pillars. All of these increase safety at the cost of visibility.

I don't think any of the generations are ugly as a whole. I prefer 1stgens, but the looks of the thirdgen are easier on my wallet. The LS-1 Camaros look like a Catfish or a Chrysler Sebring from the front. 4thgens always looked fat to me. With the right wheels, stance, and bodywork they all can look good.

I like the 5th the best but too expensive for me. I absolutely love my 91 but that's because it's a convertible. I think the 3rd gen hardtops are my least favorite of all.
