New paint - Need original pictures of Red IROCs

I'm having my 86 IROC professionally painted GM Victory Red in a week or two. As of right now, the car was scraped up in the front driver corner in a parking lot due to the negligence of a woman driver. Anyway, I got 2 new fenders and a new bumper cover to get things back where they should be, and I've decided to do a full repaint on the car.

I'd like to bring the car back to a somewhat stock look. It has tinted windows and the wheels have been painted, but other than that it's pretty stock (apperance wise). Here she is now (without the damage):

Name: DSCF3111.jpg
Views: 128
Size: 241.1 KB

The current paint is single stage paint and was done by the previous owner. It is starting to chip in the wheels wells resulting in bare metal that will only rust at this point if I don't take care of it. The rest of the car has some pretty embedded orange peel and not enough paint to sand enough off to give it a good finish. So, 3 coats of Victory Red and 5 coats of clear + sanding/buffing/finishing work should fix that right up.

To get the car looking more like it did in the 80's, I need to find some original photos of 86 IROC's or if you all have factory original cars, those would be great, too. I'm looking for emblems, pinstripes, IROC decal placement, and anything else I can do to get it looking stockish. I have replaced the faded/worn turn signals in the front, and everything else is good (minus the weatherstripping).

Where can I get decals/pinstriping/badges for the car without paying an arm and a leg?

Thanks all!

What kit did you use? I see they have a pinstriping kit for about $120, that includes the IROC decals. Where can I get the rocker badges? My rear emblem is good to go, so I'm not worried about that one. Also going to need a nose emblem.

I just pretty much did exactly what you did about 3 years ago..your decals like previously said id def go with pheonix. they have a direction sheet in the box with the stock measurements. Your best bet for emblems is ebay. Year one and classic industries have them. but there a fortune. I got all my ground efx, bumper, nose emblems from ebay. weather stripping and door reveal mouldings help a bit to to freshin her up. DEF use 1A-auto for them. the rest of the stuff door lock cylinders and handles can be purchased at autozone or similiar. If you need any help or spare badges i can look through my garage. like i said i did exactly what you did. tires up to t-tops and everything interior wise to. just Pm me if you need some info

Thanks.

You may want to call Eckler's Camaro and ask for one of there free catalogs. 1-800-278-7168. Thats where I purchased all of my emblems, front bow tie grill ,weatherstripping, etc.

Re: New paint - Need original pictures of Red IROCs

I'm having a car club owner in Corning, NY paint it for me. The car is being stripped and prepped thoroughly. He'll be sanding, sanding, and sanding some more. Total cost is $2000. I'll post pictures after I get it back. It is currently in the shop awaiting work (he's a hobbyist, not his full time job, but he has awesome attention to detail). Here's a picture of his most recent work:

My car is the in bay next to the Hugger Orange Camaro. Saw this in person and it is gorgeous; nevermind anything on the windows and whatnot, it's not overspray.

Thanks for the tips on where to get supplies everyone. I will definitely call a few places and find what I need.

I would go to phoenixgaphix for the decals.

What's the difference between their premium kit and the regular kit?

Re: New paint - Need original pictures of Red IROCs

I ordered their IROC-Z door decals and the pinstriping kit (Phoenix Graphics). I also ordered some Z28 badges through another company for the rockers. Beyond that, I already have a great looking rear bumper badge. I have also made a custom front nose badge from pure aluminum to give it a hint of a custom look to it. Should look pretty good once it's back together. It's still in for paint for awhile longer. Stay tuned.

I think you made a wise choice going with PhoenixGraphix. I was going to recommend then as well. They also come templated for correct placement. Little to no measuring needed.
