What's your opinion?

Okay - so it's time for paint, actually it's way overdue! The color is going to stay bright red but other than that I'm not set on one scheme or another so I figure I'd turn to you guys and get your input on it!

Here's what I've narrowed it down to:

1) Keep the stock appearance, don't change a thing!
2) It's a '92, add the Heritage Stripes
3) Shave her! Make it your own and go custom!
4) Shaved with Heritage Stripes, combination of 2 & 3

Feel free to leave feedback and/or suggestions...

I've found hidden antenna kits that are not too expensive - the other option is a power antenna...

My thoughts are that if I did shave, then I was thinking of going all out and remove the door guards, antenna and door handles. But then there is still the fuel door that would be the eye sore - not really sure there is much that can be done about that..

You might be on to something with JUST shaving the antenna...

Re: What's your opinion?

Thanks, JaxJags... So far that seems to be what most are voting for...

I know IF I ever decide to sell (seriously doubt it) that I will have better luck if she's stock... It's very unlikely that I will ever sell her though...

Re: What's your opinion?

Well Im personally not really a fan of the whole shaved thing on thirdgens, I did shave my antenna though. I got a hidden power antenna off of eBay for 20 bucks. Not really a fan of the stripes either. I say keep it the way it is and if you shave anything just do the antenna.

Re: What's your opinion?

I am a big fan or stock appearing. Keep it simple. Not many rolling around that look stock anymore. Kind of a shame. Fresh paint with the blacked out headlight buckets and I guarantee you will be happy!

Thanks, Scott! A lot of other people here agree with you... I wanted your input since we have the same year/make/model...

I am thinking of removing/shaving the door guards and antenna - other than that keep it the way she is... I also might not replace the TPI bumper emblem and the nose emblem as well because I'm having a hard time finding the right ones...

I know I need to figure this out soon - I've got to get it going so that I will have it done in time for the June meet!

Re: What's your opinion?

never shave a car. cars that were not designed to not have handles just look stupid when they are missing. well even ones that were still look stupid. as for changing paint etc there is nothing wrong with that when it is done right. what is really bad is opening the door of a black car and seeing red paint on the jams or white paint in the engine box...

LOL! I feel you on the paint! I was really just toying with the shaved idea - I've see some that have done it on here and it looks very nice, but have not seen it done on a vert...

Thanks for your two cents!

Re: What's your opinion?

Shave the antenna and the door locks. Keep the door handles.

I don't have an antenna on my radio and I still pick up at least 3 radio stations. An alternative is to buy a regular antenna for 10 bucks and stick it behind the dash, supposedly others say it works decent.

Re: What's your opinion?

I just had my car repainted and shaved the antenna and side moldings....now i wish I had done the locks too.
If you want to keep it stock then I would add the anniversary stripe kit.....
BUT your car looks sick the way it is right now......guess I'm not much help huh

shave the antenna, door moldings and may be the door locks?

Yours looks GREAT, Sid! the locks don't stand out - probably because it's black on black... I'm afraid that they will stand out on mine but I guess I could live with it...

The wife really likes the look of the Heritage Stripes but I'm not convinced one way or the other yet... I know I need to figure it out soon - I want do get it painted and back on the road ASAP!

Thanks for all of your input guys & keep it coming!

Re: What's your opinion?

You can have your tail light pop out to reveal the new relocated gas tank neck. I've seen it done on trucks and such, they have the tail light pop out and fold to the side or up or down w/e.

Also if you ever decide to go on a track you must have a manual way of getting into the car, so if you shave the handles you probably wont be allowed on a track.

Lastly, keep the color you have, shave the antenna, 3rd brake light (god I hate those things), door guards and black headlight buckets.

Also you may like smoothing the rear bumper line for a clean look.

-Take care

Re: What's your opinion?

I say it's your car and do it the way you want if you want to customize it by shaving the antenna then go for it, just leave the handles on the doors because it does look like it's missing something if you decide to shave those also. if you want it to look a little different compared to the stockers and more suited to your style then just do it and be happy with it...obviously you will get alot of the "Stock Guys" telling you not to touch it...make it unique...make it yours and not like all the rest

Re: What's your opinion?

I enjoy reading everyone's opinion and appreciate the time you've all taken to leave feedback! I think I'm getting closer to a decision on what I'm going to end up doing with her. I'm thinking I would like to put her in a few local shows so I doubt I'm going to go too radical and I will still do a cruise once in a while so it still needs to be a practical job as well...

Re: What's your opinion?

IMO stock is usually too plain for my tastes. I like subtle mods that people don't notice right off unless they know exactly what to look for.

Re: What's your opinion?

I said keep her stock. I am doing a custom paint job, adding a different hood, and a different spoiler on to mine so I guess I can't really talk. But with yours I love how it is right now. I wouldn't change a thing.

Re: What's your opinion?

Found another thread with a good looking modification - now I'm thinking this could be a good compromise with the door handles... What do you all think?

My biggest concern is that IF I shave the doors or do these S10 style handles - how bad is it going to hurt resale value?
