clear coat emerg.

i have this pc glisten stuff which says it can be brushed on which is bs. it is drying right now n looks like crap. i spent many hours getting these gta rims to shine and now it all looks like a wasted of time. could i sand this stuff to smooth it out and the areas it didnt take to try to re prep them and spray on the next coat. if so would this look uniform or would it turn out patchy?

Re: clear coat emerg.

and let it dry first, lots of brush finishes dont look good until fully dry.

I'm not too sure of many products myself... I know that I am going to clean up the rims on "Gina" my 86 TA that I just bought yesterday. They have a fair bit of oxidization on them and I will try to clean them up with old fashioned elbow grease (wire brush)... wish me luck!

Re: clear coat emerg.

well i didnt wait untilit was fully cured because i figured it would be easier to remove if i did it now. well 4 hours later they are now all repolished and up to par. so far the clear coat has not hardened in the can yet. its been 2 days and its supposed to only have a 3-4 hour pot life. not sure if i should try again and spray on this time or if i should just have it powder coated at a shop. or should i not coat them at all?

Re: clear coat emerg.

Was it a spray that you used the first time? Or did you apply it with a brush the first time?

Re: clear coat emerg.

applied with a brush...was thinking of thinning it so it will spray from one of those aerosol cans with the jar under it. but still unsure. i also have a bottle of meguiars carnauba wax that i may just do instead. still unsure. im at a cross roads here and not sure where to go.

Re: clear coat emerg.

the directions are really specific and extensive, just like the rest of the por-15 products.
looks like they recommend thinning 10-20% fo spraying.
it has really long cure, might want to wait before you do anything more, unless you already ground it all off.

Re: clear coat emerg.

Re: clear coat emerg.

Good. I personally would not recommend using a brush to apply any clearcoat to a car's wheels. I remember your first post stating on how terrible the brush strokes looked on your rims... i's like taking a brush to the finished paint on your car. Yeah, spraying is the way to go! Too bad that you don't have a spray gun... but there are cheap versions of spray guns available on the market that would be fine for clear shots on rims & for general priming on body panels.

Good luck on your rims!
