The official plans for my IROC-Z, Tell me what you think :)
Here is a decent photoshop of what i want to do with my iroc. I want to stick with a factory bright red and put all the origional decals back on it. I am gonna get the Hawks 5in spoiler and keep the hood a factory hood so that to the untrained eye it looks like a factory body mod. Rims are a little different than what i want. The plan is 18x8 Chrome irocs to keep that "rest-mod" style. I hope i didn't butcher a fellow members car lol Its awesome i love it. So everyone tell me what you think of my plans for good or for bad. Also if you have any ideas let me know. I cant wait to get this done. Slow and Steady.

I would do the same minus your chrome iroc idea. The chrome irocs are far too common and look cheap compared to a polished finish. Get the 18" polished irocs and paint the inserts like the factory wheels..

I don't like the Orange color on a Third Gen.
Very good choice for a First Gen maybe for a Second Gen but absolutely not

honestly thats one of the main factors when i was deciding ehat to do. I always wanted an iroc. I didn't want to change it much and this was the style that i finally decided on. I should be getting the spoiler in the next few weeks. So well just see how it looks when i get it. I know its gonna be killer. Thanks for the support and kind words everyone. -Matt

Re: The official plans for my IROC-Z, Tell me what you think :)
I like the looks of that car, the paint is absolutely brilliant. Not too sure on the rims though, but thats just me. I have been photochopping different looks on my own car trying to decide how I want to go with the body and am currently torn between the louvered hood (w/painted louvers) or the 2" cowl hood like the one currently forsale by goodmark. I also am developing an appreciation for the ss style hood some of you guys have.
As for colors, I am thinking of re-doing my paint scheme in cobalt blue with the old school rally stripes (the ones that come from the gfx in front, up the hood, across the top and down the back) I want my stripes to either be brilliant silver or charcoal grey. I am also going to paint the outside of my ttops and mirror tint the underside (they are the lexan ones and scratched all to hell)
On the subject of custom colors, there is someone on this site that has a very VERY sharp orange car that strikes me as "Tangelo" and is beautiful IMO. However there is another that is orange w/black gfx that while is not my style I can appreciate the time involved as it was painted by the owner I believe in his garage. I think that as far as custom colors are concerned, they have to be done right to have it pull off the look. That is just my opinion though.

I have to ask, will the high rise spoiler mount up to the stock rs/z28/iroc-z holes? I love the look of it. it looks sick..

Doc_G,
Hey man, sounds like you are getting your own ideas also. I didn't try to put the chrome irocs on this car because it looked so good. So the wheels on the car arn't what im going for but still looks good.
I seen that man, also i have pics of your car saved on my PC man. I love it
Are you talkin about the 5 inch spoiler? Or the 91-92 z28 spoiler. I assume the 5 inch, it fits all but 87-90 cars because the quater panel holes on the cars with the brake light in the spoiler are different than the ones that dont have them. This is why i wanted a 86 iroc. I also wanted the brake light up top. For those with the 87-90 camaros all you have to do is drill new holes and fill the old ones on the quaters. I dont know which holes will line up but i think 1 or 2 of them on each side are fairly close. -Matt

Re: The official plans for my IROC-Z, Tell me what you think :)
thats cool man, i have heard that they normally need a finish blocksanding and the sides of the spoiler need to be trimmed so meet the tail lights. Other than that i think thats about all the work needed, i have heard about how they dont fit well before because of a bad mold. Or somthin like that. If that happens just contact hawks. I really cant wait to buy one. I have always wanted this spoiler and the cost doesn't bother me at all really. This spoiler alone will help set my car from the others. I got several pics of the spoiler on other cars if you want to see them. If ShakerMaker05 wants to post a pic or two of his thats cool with me. -Matt

Re: The official plans for my IROC-Z, Tell me what you think :)
As for fit and finish on the Hawkes spoiler; I will go ahead and state that I've never seen one in person, nor have I ever tried to install one. I will go on record as stating I'd bet my title that it can't be any worse than saleen body parts/wings. We Fbody Enthusiasts are lucky that for the most part our wings and gfx are pretty straight forward. A little sanding, a bit of the heat gun and bingo they are on and look nice. I've put an entire saleen kit on a new edge, as well as an s281 wing and cobra reproduction front and rear bumpers on a 95 mustang so I have a bit of experience with both "factory" and aftermarket kits on vehicles. (well a few mustangs) I can tell you from personal experience NO AFTERMARKET (and some times not even the factory pieces) FIT 100%. There is ALWAYS some type of final work needed due to the fact that they are mass produced from molds. If you want it to look right/great there is always some final massaging needed. I look at it as the icing on the cake to ensure that everyone loves how my cars turn out.

Looks good. I like your ideas. And it's good to go with something on the car that is a little bit different than stock. Like your spoiler. I know there are the guys that say all original is the way to go. But I think a little custom is the way to go. If everybody had all original cars, life would be so boring lol. I like both reds so it's hard to help ya on that one.

Thats the reason i was red shopping lol But the normal red will prolly look great when its fresh. I want somthing to stand out but keep what i love about the irocs. I like crazy custom to but idk i like mild customs myself. Thanks for tryin to help lol

well i did some research and the 18x8 irocs went up in price so i have been lookin at the American racing Torque Lites 18x8. They are in the range that i was lookin to pay. They are only about $170 a wheel. and they look SWEET. Input?

Either of those reds would look good, but I say go with the GTO color. Its really nice.
As for the wheels, its definitely got to be the Torque Lites. Im thinking the 17s would look a bit better because of tire profile. But either size works.
Can't wait to see the finished product!

Well i got the 5" today. Slapped that baby on and it looks pretty good. I had to play with the holes to get the spoiler to mount right but still looks good. I need to trim the ends and finish sand it. Along with align the hatch lol But all in all i am happy with it. If anyone is thinking of getting one... BE CAREFUL the fiberglass is brittle and will crack if you torque just barely to hard... believe me... i know. Ill post pics later. -Matt

Seems awful familiar...Oh thats cause I`ve planning/doing something similar to my car.I just started with a new drivetrain.I love the stock red color with all the original decals.5 inch spoiler is nice but mines 87 and I like the brakelight in the spoiler.I`m going to stay with either the stock Iroc wheels or go back to the zr1/ss style 4th gen wheels I had.Maybe lower it a little.I like the direction your going.Keep it stock looking.Their are plenty of half a$$ed modded ri(er type camaros on the streets. To me a clean stock appearance is just classy.
Post count was 911.I rarely even look at that.Kinda wierd

Yea i was going to use the one off my car but it was in my room so i just grabbed a spare spoiler with the brake light in it from the garage and used it. That Thing is really awesome. It makes backing up a fun new experiance lol. Its just so weird to look back and not see as much as ur used to lol.

i like the 5 in, i'd go with the polished iroc rims over the chrome though.....
personally i prefer the dark metalic red on the iroc's but to each his own.
other than that i think it'll be pretty sick

No man i dont mind, sadly they are still at the high price of $299. I really could have used the money else where but i just thought that if i didn't get the spoiler now while i had the money then i wouldn't be able to get it later. So i did. I think the 5 inch would make that car look great man. I just hope that they will drop price caz i would like to see more people with them. -Matt
Also i got my hood blisters today so i am sanding them down right now and i will try to get pics today or tommorrow.

Alright this is the photoshop that me and LMSkyliner made this to show basically the finished product. I am going with the GTO red. Just because i want somthing that is still the same color just a different shade. And the mettalic would look great. This is the FINAL one. What do you think? Let me know. Note: I have hood blisters that are on mine now so that changes it a little. -Matt
