nordskog digital heater
I ordered my nordskog digital dash almost a month ago ( still need to wait till my aunt gets back from the US of A )
but now I was thinking. I will have such a good looking dash in my camaro, but that heater looks lind of crappy with it.
would anybody here be intrested in a digital heater panel ( made by nordskog ) that matches the nordskog gauges ?
for firebird owners, nordskog is working on a firebird dash for your cars, so the heater would also work in your cars .

Re: nordskog digital heater
dunno, i'm not from nordskog company.
but I asked if it would be possible to make something like that. and they said that they where gonna look into it. I send them some plans of the original heater control. so they would know what we are talking about. I think if the demand would be high enough that that tey would make something like it.
besides, i think the heater goes into more GM cars then just the F-body.
about the firebird gauges

looks like you have to wait just a bit.

Re: nordskog digital heater
One problem though is that the vent door is vacuum operated. When you turn the **** to select which vents the air comes from, you're actually controlling a vacuum actuator inside the dash. The mix door is cable operated. When you slide the temp from left/right, you're moving the mix door via a cable. Newer cars use little electric servos to move the doors, which makes it easier to have an electronic climate panel. Also, newer cars that allow you to simply set a temperature on the climate panel have 2 temp sensors, one inside and one outside. If you set the temp to 65F, it has to look at the outside temp to figure out whether to turn the heat or A/C on.

Re: nordskog digital heater
dont think there is any vacumm line attached to the heater panel. that part is still electric
about turning the heat on, if it was up to me I put a temp sensor somewhere in the car wich calculates the temp inside the car.
the heater panel has a value inside that you can set in yourself. and I would make the heater heat up or cool down the car till it reaches the value it is set to.
with other words
temp set 50degrees
temp inside 70 degrees
cool down
temp set 50 degrees
temp inside 30 degrees
warm up.
I think the hardes part of all is to regulate the cable operated warm/cold slide.

Re: nordskog digital heater
My 83 had vacuum lines attached to the vent select switch. One came from the engine, and there were several that came out of it, that went to the vent door actuator. It's possible that it was changed at some point, but I'm not sure.

Hmm, I didn't even think about the digi-dash cars. I wonder what the berlinetta's with digital gauges had also.
