My LS6'ed '91 SOM Z28

Sup fella's. I usually post on Ls1tech.. but i thought yall might want to see this hear

I just took these pictures with my camera phone so it doesnt do the car any justice.
I got these from Tomzwheels. 17x9.5 front with Fuzion ZRI 275/40 ZR17's on front and 17x11's with a 315/35 Nitto Drag radial. <--damn they look good!
They hook good too! cut 1.62 60ft with these on

I am absolutely in love with this wheel setup on my car. It completely changed the look. I had people at work i didnt even know coming up to me today after i put them on saying it looked awesome. 1 of a kind. :chug:
Anyways here you go.....more pictures to follow.

here are some more pics....

Thats definetly a tight car all around. I like all the 4th gen accents to the car - Hood , Wheels, Motor. Looks like it should have came that way in '91.

Beautiful car! What are the offset specs on the rims? What are you running for spacers front and back? Any work done to the fender lip or the inner wheel well?

Re: My LS6'ed '91 SOM Z28

Well done

Love the attention to detail with the paint in the engine bay

Few things to look at thou, the engine looks kinda cluttered with all those wires and hoses just haphazardly thrown around. Id take the upper radiator hold down and sand it and paint it gloss black to go with all the other clean black engine parts. Exhaust tips have gotta go.

Props to ya if ya like the wheels but i dont think the black looks that great on the SOM

Flawless interior

Nitrous bottle looks great but its kinda goofy sittin right in the middle

Sharp camaro youve got goin for you there

AWESOME CAR! I'm also on LS1Tech most of the time for my '02 WS6 Vert, but I'm going to have my '92 Vert coming together soon.

I would like to see more pics of the engine bay. Specifically I'd like to see what you did for the radiator overflow and windshield fluid tanks.

Also, are you using the Spohn K-member?

i agree with you, i perfer the pizza table boxish style dash/interior out of the 3rd gen over the bubbly 4th gen interior. I give a thumbs up though on it, looks to be well done Overall its a beautiful custom ride, enjoy!

Nice Car. I like the engine bay. I have the same seats and they are killer although I might switch to 4th gen seats if I was you since the rest of the interior is 4th gen. I love the paint and those wheels are better than the aftermarket chrome you had before.

Talked to him when he was here in San Antonio and I think he said 11.8 all motor. Might have been with spray, don't remember.

Re: My LS6'ed '91 SOM Z28

Sup fella's,
glad to hear you guys like it.

I bought it for 10k from another member right after it was almost done.
Since i got it i sold the 100k Ls1 and put in a 28k mile Ls6 motor from my friends z06. Re did the wiring and Then re-build the rear end and put 373 gears in it, and now i have the tranny getting rebuilt with all "race" parts and a vig 3200 stall vs the tci 3k stall.
I am getting different seats for it and have some of the interior pieces getting re done in black. speaker panels and got new arm rests.

I ran the car with the old '98 ls1 motor and 224 cam...it went 7.7 @ 89 mph in the 1/8 and 7.14 @ 97 mph on a 150 shot.

I took this new setup to the track a week ago but the tranny didnt want to shift (hense getting it rebuilt) and with it hitting the limiter on the 1-2 and the 2-3 shift it still went 7.5 at 92 mph/..
I ran 5 bikes on the freeway with it that night and it out ran 4 600cc bikes and i ran door to door with a 750cc bike.... SO its diffenitly rolling out hard.
I cant wait to spray it now

The rear rims are the 50mm offset. I got the wheels from Tomzwheels.com
This wheel setup is night and day over the chrome 10 spokes.
I will get more pictures once i get the tranny back in it.

That really is a sweet car, and I am totally jealous that I did not try and scrape up 10G to pick that one up! Glad it is in good hands, and make sure to come around here a little more often and keep us in the loop on what is happening with the ride.

It is not yours unless you built it. You may have changed some wheels and removed and replaced an engine, but someone painted it, put a new hood, exhaust, 4th gen interior the works.

Maybe, I take the term hot rodder too seriously, but I put 100% labor in my car, that car has a piece of me.

Good luck dude.

Beautiful car.

However in my eyes I would much rather take the 10k'ish you spent on it and build an equally modified car exactly how I wanted it.

But hey thats just me.

Awesome machine ya got there.

Because someone changed the Paint and interior it's not his car? Even though he put a new motor, rebuilt the rear, rewired the car, and is getting a new tranny, he didn't build it? SO if it wasn't painted and the interior was stock, and he changed the motor, rewired the car, rebuilt the rear, and the tranny, then it would be his car? Anyone can change a hood, atleast 95% of people take their car somewhere to be painted and have exhaust work done. I'd say from the work he's already done to it, it's got a piece of him also being that's more work than most people have done to their car.

Would you complete a coloring book and call it a masterpiece?
Maybe you could, if you stayed within the lines.

If someone put more effort than you did on the car that you currently own, then it would be funny to say it is my "one of a kind" car that you did 30% of the work on.

I laugh at those guys I see at the car clubs that buy fast cars already customized and modified and talk trash about beating your car.

To some people, their car is a reflection of the person who built it. I have well over a 1000 hours in my car, it isn't fast, but it screams me.

Paint and interior work is 70% of the car?

Re: My LS6'ed '91 SOM Z28

It takes way more time to do body work, properly fit a hood, sand and prep the car, paint the engine bay and the exterior than it takes to swap in an LS6 that is already assembled and will drop right in since the previous owner did all the exhaust work and wiring, k-member etc.

Apparently you are not familar with how long it takes to do a fourth gen interior swap and wire up all the gauges.

So 70% sounds very accurate. I can swap an engine in a day, It took me a week to do the body work and paint my car.

Re: My LS6'ed '91 SOM Z28

oh man, this argument is getting weak.

I'd say either way just let the guy enjoy the car. I know it sounds crazy but some people just like to drive the car, and own it. He has to keep the maintenance up on it, keep it looking good and running, It's HIS.

As far as I'm concerned whoever holds the titles gets to says its their masterpiece, car, whatever they want to call it.

Re: My LS6'ed '91 SOM Z28

Alright...this is outta hand...Nelapse,
I have already build 2 different fourth gen F-bodys from the ground up(both over 500hp) and 1 3rd gen, not including this one, which i pretty much did as well. So its not like i just bought this car because it was modded.
...yes there is a since in pride in doing your own work etc.etc...and i can see your argument to a very small extent, but you took it wayyyyyy out of context.

I bet your the kinda guy who likes to look "outside the box" and finds the whole card board factory, then tells them since they didnt make the equipment that produces the boxes they cant claim they made them

Now. I was about to pick up an Iroc and do exactly the same paint job and dash swap this one had. I found this one already done (for the most part) and added up the money aspect and found that it was cheaper to get this one already done.
However the motor , and driveline etc...i wanted more out of. But this was a perfect platform to start from...hense why i have changed so much....(practically everything) motor, wiring, transmission, rear end, suspension mods, exhaust, and soon to be seats.
The only thing i havent messed with is the dash. but so what? that **** was all plug and play with the ls1 wiring harness.

The whole "its not yours unless you built it" crap is lame.
You might as well tell everyone on this site there cars arent theirs because most of the didnt paint there cars either.

Now. Dont bother posting in this thread anymore. I dont care what else you may have to say and i dont think anyone else wants to hear it either.

Ah the infamous... I built this and that over this much horsepower and nothing to show for it. I bet your dad is John Force too... I have heard it all. I have no problem leaving this thread alone. People like you make people like me much more proud. Knowing I do not have to buy respect.

Have a good time with your toy, I hope you kept the reciept.
