how about a wagner power painter?
u know the ones that hook up to extension cord. if people are painting their rides with rattlecan and rollers. has anyone tried this. have one put up, thinking about trying it with rustoleum.

Well, obviously it will work if all you want is coverage, but the machine is designed for house paint/stain. The spray is really not the same as an HVLP gun, it shoots much larger droplets, and as such, the orange peel will be severe. It would be better than a paint roller, but probably worse than a spray can. Also, I'm not sure about the compatibility of internal parts of the sprayer with the reducers/hardeners used in auto paint. It might work, but you'll be doing a lot of sanding afterwards if you want a nice surface.

As far as a PowerPainter, I'm not so sure about that ... because of the droplet size as stated. But if you thin the rustoleum significantly with mineral spirits, it would probably "self-level" just like the roller job does.

Id have to see that, I would NEVER think about painting a car with a paint roller!!! LOL, thats funny! How you going to clear it? Poor it on with a dixie cup?
Come on people. Do it right the 1st time or dont do it at all.
Next thing you guys are going to tell me you sanded your car before you painted it with a sand blaster.

theres a thread somewhere on here about painting your car with rollers, and sure it doesnt look show quality, but if you were short on money, and needed a painjobit would work fine, and I think it only costed like 200 for everything

lol My clear alone for my car is $300.00 a gallon. And thats not with the hardner or activator. Then theres paint.....reds not the cheapest paint you can buy.
Only way to get away with anything like you guys are talking about is using a single stage paint so you wouldnt have to clear it. But like 92rs said it will NOT be show quality. And I would love to see a car painted with a roller.....I can imagine how straight it is
If I repaint my car this winter/spring......there will be no rollers allowed

Congrats on your $300/gallon clear.
I'm not talking about painting a nice car, I'm talking about painting a 79 chevy pickup. And it would work nicely on any half-descent car that is prepped right.
Here are some pics of cars painted with rustoleum and a roller ... including a 69 Charger that's worth way more than an 87 T/A. If you take your time and do it right, $50 can get you a long way. Lets face it ... prepping is the key. The paint is the easy part. If you roll it on, let it dry and wet sand then polish, your results will be better than most single-stage jobs.
And you don't clear it ... you don't have to.
Again, don't knock it til you've tried it. If I had ... say ... an 86 Trans Am L03 with 100K that needed paint, I wouldn't hesitate to do this. Why would you put a $5000 paint job on a $2000 car?

the other guy in this thread is a tool, 300 for a gallon of paint maybe for a show car, but then again show cars suck.

He's right on the red paint though ... that stuff is NOT cheap to spray. And with a car like his, it deserves a "better than roller" paint job (as would mine), but I would love to roll paint on a beater!

Whats wrong with show cars, Whats wrong with wanting to make your car the best you can? So I'm a tool....thats fine with me. At least I spend the time to do things right the first time. You can look up the clear if you want PPG2082.
Fine if its a beater do what you want to it, I have before. But if you look up the photos of my car....I usually dont cut corners. I do it right the 1st time so I dont have to go back a year later and say....opps I knew I should have done that. You start cutting corners, things ususlly dont last too long.
If its a beater go ahead and go for it, If its something you want to keep for awhile and want it to last, like I said before, do it right the 1st time.
