My new Formula
Here's my new project. I finally got some pics the other day at the shop. Shes a little dirty, but these are the before pictures So anyway, heres my 91 Formula...
Its got a locked up LB9 in it right now but I have a L98 ready to drop in. I hope to have it in by this weekend. The best part about the whole deal.....I paid $150 for the car
BTW anyone know what the SE wheel caps mean?

Those caps came from something else... Maybe an older firebird SE??
Nice deal for $150, body looks great (aside from the dirt)!

About 124,000 miles. It does have A/C, auto, but rear drums on a ten bolt although it does have a posi, is that strange? The car is bone stock, I can't imagine somebody went and got old centercaps for it but i guess its a possibility. The caps are just on the rear wheels, nothing on the front. Unfortunitly I can't find the RPO code sheet on it anywhere I've checked in all the normal spots and so far no dice. If I give the VIN to PHS, can they get me a RPO list for the car?

I think the center cap is stock but the decal was put on by a previous owner. Places like JC Whitney sell center cap decals that say "special edition" or some catchy 70's phrase like "keep on truckin".
Good score for $150. My '91 Formula front bumper cover cost more than that.

Yeah, what a treasure. Good for you, although it kills me to see TPI third-gens just left to rot like that. I'm glad you gave it a home.

So what would the correct caps be for this car? Is itweird for a drum ten bolt to have a posi? Also, is their a way aside from the RPO sheet (which I cant find) to tell if its a WS6 car or not?

Nice Deal!! Looks like a great start for another Awesome 3rd Gen!
I am not 100%, but I think the correct center caps should be black and have the gray bird on them. Are you sure the rear is posi? If it does not have discs, it is probably a swap.

You can get the silver WS6 emblems that fit into the cap from most places. I am not sure that GM still has stock on them, but check them first. The later years used the WS6 instead of the silver bird. The WS6 ones are silver letters "WS6" across the cap, with the spelling of the WS6 going around the emblem, around the big "WS6" letters.
The S/E emblem, should be able to be removed with a screwdriver or something, if you try to use them. You could trade or sell them to someone.
The Formula also had silver caps, and they usually come separate from the emblem, unless you find a complete set or cap.
Hope this helps,
George

I'm pretty sure its posi. With both wheels off the ground & the car in neutral if you spin one tire with your hand the other spins in the same direction. That nomally means it has posi. If it spins in the opposite direction its open. I really doubt somebody tossed a posi in here aftermarket, everything else on the car is stock. The diff doesnt look like its ever been opened. Even the muffler looks stock. Was it an option to get the posi with drums?

Thats a great car to start with and what a deal you got too. One man's junk is another man's treasure! I hate to see people just neglect a car like that

Unfortunitly the kid I got this car from has commited 3rd gen homocide before. Hes a customer of my dad's shop. He had a 85 Camaro in there about 2 years ago. This was a v6 or 305 tbi car. Locked up the motor on that one too. That car was too far gone to save anything from. Rotted to heck. The only useable part was the dashpad, which was mint (kinda weird huh) and thats going in my IROC at some point. Ah well, at least this one will be saved There is some rot on the formula, the drivers rocker pnel has a hole in it and the drivers floor pan is rotted through. Other then that just some light bubbles around the rear fender wells. The plans for it are just a toy car/weekend cruiser/drive to work sometimes and most importantly fill in for the IROC when its getting worked on and to give my G/F a car to play with since I wont let her drive the IROC (I just do it to torture her, she doesnt really care if she drives it or not she just wants to cause I wont let her and I wont let her cause I know that, its a vicious cycle)

sweet deal, you can find those exact center caps on ebay for a few bucks, probably their origin. much cheaper than the stockers. lots of potential there!

I love the 91-92 Formulas. I read somewhere that they styled the front fascia to more closely resemble the Banshee concept car

I have heard there was a shortage of disk rears, so they built a lot without. The RPO is J65 for rear disk and J50 for drum. I think I may hate you a little for being that lucky
