Re: How much You paid and A picture of your Car...
The day I bought her home....
Attachment 217153
Bought her at the beginning of January w/ only 46,172 miles for $6500. All stock. Only thing I have done is add 5% tint one the rear window, 20% on the sides, and a 5% strip on the windshield... And, upgraded from the factory radio/stereo system to a cd player, replaced the dash and mid speakers w/ new ones, and added a speakerbox with two 12" subwoofers and an amp. Right now, I sit on exactly 50,007 miles.

I got the deal of a lifetime on this one, but they are out there. A fully loaded 87 Iroc 5.7 with everything original down to the a.i.r. pump and Bose system. Well it had been repainted and needed buffing, but it sat for 11 years in his garage (1997 till 2008 when I got it). He wanted $1200 but woulnd't put a battery in it to see if it would spin over so I offered $700 and he accepted.
Had it towed home, put a new battery in it and was at the drag strip the next weekend running 9.80s 1/8th lol.
Until I did the recent paint job I had $5400 in it with the turbo system, new tires and transmission/converter. It runs 7.8's 1/8 mile.
After the paint job I have $11k in it and I'm about to build an engine for it and will need to upgrade to a better turbo. Should have around $15k in it. And it should run 6.9 1/8 and look good doing it!
Here she is after the paint but before polishing and stickers back on.

Re: How much You paid and A picture of your Car...
Thanks. And, honestly, I almost left the parking lot without her!!! I actually went to the dealership to look at a fully restored RamCharger, lol! Something about it was calling me, but when I took it for a test drive, I didn't like how llose the suspension felt. I was 100% ready to leave and saw "Her".... And, then I saw the "RS", and was almost instanly disappointed. Then, I asked the salesman (Lady) which motor it has in it. When she said 5.0L V8, I told her, "Okay, it's MINE!". Now, I have fulfilled one of my lifelong dreams (Well, since being able to drive, rather), of owning an old school Chevy. I plan on keeping her forever, and passing her to my son in another 10yrs. Plausible, I think so!!!

Paid 22 799$ with today´s dollar price. (And that´s considered a low-price third-gen over here)
Here´s the car:
Yup! Thirdgens are a bit more expencive in Europe, and I f-ing hate the low prices you guys pay for them over in the US. I would´ve had ten of them if I lived there :P

Paid $4300 for mine in July '99 from the original owner, 116k and bone stock down to the air filter. Didn't have the heart to low-ball, and paid the asking price which I thought was fair.

Re: How much You paid and A picture of your Car...
$2,600
$6,200
And I may add one of these to the collection if I can find an '03 or '04 at a decent price, around 15,000. I'm picky though, and want a Ram 2500, 4X4, 6 speed, Cummins, quad cab, long bed, and less than 200K miles, which is still pretty much nothing for a Cummins diesel.
2 grand sitting around so far, and I think I've abandoned my idea of a single turbo or centrifugal for the Mustang.

Wow - 5+ pages - it appears that this has gone from a "need to see what I can replace with my insurance money" thread to a "let's see what everyone got for their buck" thread. So I'll throw down.
1st pic my 1990 RS - paid $500 for it - yeah, big door bash, but $500 for a running V8 works for me! I bought this as an extra "just in case" vehicle - I quickly got the bug and started modding/building. But it didn't have T-tops, and I wanted them, so I sold it and went for ....
2nd pic is my 1992 RS - I paid $800 for this car - this pic was taken shortly after I got it. This became my baby! Yanked out the computer, the 305TBI, built the tranny, installed a carbed 350, repainted, and 1000 other little things that ate away at my wallet - but she's worth it.
3rd pic is the same 1992 RS, but 5 years and $15k later. Daddy loves his baby!

I paid 1100$ for mine, virtually no body rust, solid engine, but it looked like a wreck on the inside. Well now the inside looks good but the exterior work is yet to come.

Re: How much You paid and A picture of your Car...
Crappy performance wise, yes. They just have a hard time making power above 4 grand. I imagine they make for a great daily driver, just not something you can expect power out of when N/A. The real root of the problem beyond TPI is the heads and the baby cam, but forced induction fixes that.
There's a Vortech supercharged 305 that made over 400 at the wheels, not sure on heads, or cam though. He claims it was a bolt on only project before his new engine, so I imagine them numbers aren't too far out there for a stock internal 305 with air being forced in by a big Vortech.

2900 May 2009. It needed a bit of work when I got it, it had been sitting for almost 8 years.
Including the price of the car, I'm into it about 10K.

That is literally EVERYTHING I have spent related to this car minus gas. Things like tools, tires, rear end, t5 swap (not installed yet) insurance...everything. I also bought some third gen related parts from the junk yard just in case I needed it. I have about 3300 in just parts to fix the car. The biggest expense was the paint at 1500 dollars (done in my garage).

Paid $1,000 for the RS from a co-worker. Bought it for my gal. has a V8, nice exhaust and is SO much fun to drive... Bought the Red 91 Z28 last weekend in Long Island, has a 5.0 auto and needs body work. I have an IROC donor car for the fenders, nose, ground effects (yes, I know I won't have scoops, never been crazy about the scoops..) Also have a 5.7 TPI from a 91 Z28 with auto trans, the car had 90,000 miles and I saw it run before it got pulled. Going to get the drive train in, then do the body work, then the interior. Will be red with black stripes on the hood and have that crazy

Re: How much You paid and A picture of your Car...
Just bought an '88 IROC-Z for my wife for $300. It's an LB9 TPI automatic hardtop car, in moderate shape - needs paint, minor bodywork, and a short block. RPO codes check out and the car is relatively unmolested. TPI Engine is complete but engine sat for 4 years and is seized with water in the crankcase. Already have a replacement block at the machine shop.

FREE!!!! is the best!!!
got it from my dad (he is original owner since 1988)
265K ORIGINAL MILES when i got it from him... i probably added 35-40K for the 1 1/2 years i had it so im bout to break into the 300k soon
then its new engine time!
when my dad gave it to me. i already started the process of body work.
this is it after ive finished body work and paint. notice the red is a bit brighter.. didnt really like that contrast of dark red with the silver.. so yeah

Re: How much You paid and A picture of your Car...
I paid $2300 back in 2006 for it, completely stock down to the blown speakers and the paint was peeling off the roof and decklid. I wish i had some stock pictures of it.
Since then I'd say I've dumped about 6K into it, interior suspension, T5 swap
