Ram Air II Owners come inside
I just wanted to see the results of everyone that has a ram air hood especially those involved in the group purchase last year. Mine is still white, as my car will most likely be getting painted this summer/fall. But I put it on 3 days ago and it's really straight took me about 5 minutes to bolt it on and align it. Lets see em

It looks like having that hood on a camaro would be way easier to get it to line up. Mine was a pita still isnt perfect i plan to fix that this summer when i do all my custom body work and paint. Hey maximus do u plan to lower your car that would look killer?

I really want to lower the car, but the town i just moved to i won't be able to! I can barely pull in to WAWA w/ out nearly scrapping! I want to so bad, I have everything else! New shocks/struts, and LCA's! The LCA's are awesome, a noticable difference!!! We'll see! I can't wait for spring!!!!

Hey 87ciz I had major problems with both of my ram air hoods. One from some company in Florida the other one from Hawks. The one from Hawks was the worst. O will that get edited... I forgot who pays the bills here. Yea Ill never buy another fiberglass ram air II again. By the way where did you get yours from?

i was one of the guys from the group purchase from ramairhood.com I've been to several shops to get an estimate for painting and they were impressed with the 'glass work. camarogirl18 bought hers in the GP as did charged350 i believe i cant find the original thread i guess it was deleted when tgo crashed. I'm waiting on Jason to chime in with his.

ive been pondering the idea of gettin one ofthese hoods. but im not sure, looks good even on a camaro. i cant decide on this hood, SS or the big block hood.

yep, i was in the group purchase, but the thing that sux i might have to get rid of the hood if my blower dont fit under it, anyone want it if it dont fit.

Wackytower did u install the hood urself and do all the aligning. Im thinking the reasons a lot of the hoods dont line up is because people didnt take them to shops. A good shop wouldnt let it leave unless it was right. I put my hood on and did some aligning but still have work with it some more.

Hey F355Bird I'm offended by your last comment dude. It doesnt take a proffesional bodyman to loosen bolts and slide the hood back and forth. It is not hard to bend the hinges a little or sand some material here or there. These are all easy fixes that someone who isnt gifted in the bodywork area can do as a first effort. Im sure everyone with these ram air hoods has tried this.
What you are missing is that these hoods arent just a little off and need tweaking. These are warped, twisted, and seriously jacked up hoods. I do all my own body work and my two hoods were no exception. The entire top surface was wavy and required many layers of fiberglass filler and sanding to make the hoods look good. Not only that but many holes had to be filled where air pockets had developed. This was just to fix the top area of the hood, i hadnt even started on the fitment yet.
My second crappy hood from Hawks was molded in two different pieces then sandwiched together. There was a two inch border on the underside of the hood that had to be filled and smoothed so it didnt look like a piece of junk.
After that the holes had to be recut and smoothed out because it looked like someone took a jig saw to the cut outs. It was ragged wasnt straight and none of them lined up.
Finally after all that was done it was time to put the hood on and look for fitment. Of course it was off. Why would it fit after all the other stuff that had happened. Countless hours of sanding and shaving edges and surfaces to get the hood to fit properly were next. 2 months later it was finally done.
So please give us a little credit and dont accuse us of being idiots when it comes to our hoods not fitting right. We've tried the best we could with what we have. Fiberglass just sux if it isnt done right. And many of the hoods we have bought didnt fit. Its amazing when someone doesnt have a problem and it is beautiful when someone like wackytowers looks good!

My friend and I did all the work to the car. It took alot of work to get it to fit correctly there was low spots in the hood etc.(Probably at least 80 hours of work in the hood alone) In direct sunlight i notice the edges of the hood raise a little by the headlights, but fiberglass does that kind of stuff. Alot people wouldnt even notice it but I do. Thats just they way i am

I did my hood by myself, painted it by myself, aligned it by myself, but then again i do work at a body shop.

I apologize if I took your comment out of context F355Bird. I was only trying to let people know that these hoods can be difficult to work with and its not as simple as loosening and tightening bolts. Just trying to inform people not cause problems. I hope you'll see thats what im trying to get it.

Did anyone else have to shave down under the hood at all towards the front to get around part of the radiator shrowd? I had to do that with mine to get the front to come down more. It was hittiong on it and after grinding some of the unerside of the hood down it now sits better. I think i have to do the other side as well.

Thats where i had the majority of my trouble was the front of the hood hitting on the core support. I shaved all the rubber stops down and clearenced the core support some. I think my front bumper is sagging a little bit and contributes to some of the height difference between it and the hood. Dont know what to do about the height difference between the hood and the headlights?
