Still working on gutting it, after the pohtos were taken I removed passenger seatbelts, driver side armrest and the speakers. My car is on a diet. Any comments?

riiiight....maybe i posted on the wrong board...ummm for me it's form follows function, i'm not really worried how clean my car looks, when i get new wheels they will be the lightest i can find/afford, regardless of looks. So my point is: this is my car. It's faster now without all sorts of things that weigh it down. This is my style- it's not flashy, it's purposeful.

HEY. How are my methods lame and not functional?
So far I have removed all seats, hood, heator core, blower motor and all related items. removed entire a/c system. removed a/c and heater controls, all sepakers and radio. removed front bumper supports and related plastics, half of the grille, low beams, smog tubes, hood latch, winshield wiper motor. removed side marker lights, inner fender plastics, antenna, wheel center caps, muffler and most of the pipe (exaust exits next to the cat) rad. hose support, 70% of the sound insulation. Also spare tire, jack, rear curtan, armrests, ashtray, cig. lighter, 3rd brake light, seat belts (except mine), sun visors, misc. wires, but the point is this is just the beginning. I do more every day.
"when the end result is a spun bearing or trans fragging" WTF?
Okay bro I have no clue what you are saying. That's what happens when your car gets lighter? uh oh. LESS WEIGHT=LESS STRESS ON COMPONENTS.
"theres a difference in making a fast lightweight functional car, and using lame methods of removing weight in order to attempt to have a fast car"
So tell me then, what is the "CORRECT" way to remove weight? heh heh heh hahaha
check your self dude

as in after you blow it up and it goes to the junkyard, it will blend right in with all the other picked half to death cars, sad im working on reassembling a car right now that someone got bright with your mentality and hacked it up about the same. Sucks having to undo someones halfass attempt at a fast car.

Your concept is certainly.... unique.
Is it still street legal?
Also, to save weight, you could drop a 4-banger in there.
Also, not having a hood is a bit extreme. Perhaps a fiberglass hood? The one on my car weighs next to nothing.
Be sure to post a 1/4 time.

"read the statement smart guy"
Oh I read the statement. You never answered my questions though. Smart guy.
This is MY car, so i'll do what i like, and what is functionally proficient. Weight reduction is a proven performance adder. and equally, pounds are pounds. So if it is alum. heads over iron to lose weight, or removing what in my eyes is junk accessories, i'm still getting the advantage i'm looking for. there is no wrong way to reduce pounds off your car. Period. My ways cost nothing though.
"as in after you blow it up and it goes to the junkyard, it will blend right in with all the other picked half to death cars" GOOD, when this car gets wrecked it'll be gone forever. Unless someone inexperienced like yourself digs it out of the trash heap and tries to fix it. lol hve fun!
"sad im working on reassembling a car right now that someone got bright with your mentality and hacked it up about the same." Yah that does suck. For you!
So why'd you start that challange? Don't complain about how difficult is is, just because you took on a project too difficult for you. Check things out first before you start.
"Sucks having to undo someones halfass attempt at a fast car." I dont do things halfass, this is before i start spending $$$ on my toy. JUST FIXING UP THE FOUNDATION FOR A REALLY FAST CAR. BTW, my daily driver is a 1980's yamaha motorcycle.
It's all about the power to weight ratio.
You got nothing compelling to say, and nothing with substance. LATE

why not just go buy a go cart? hell ya! but i could'nt drive around town.
it's street legal, but i had to get a shifty smogger to fake passing...The cops around here get a kick out of it and the other benifit to my "no hood" deal is the motor runs about 7-9 deg. cooler...all the little things add up....

The one who's made a ghetto attempt at a fast car by hacking out everything his moronic self could find is trying to tell someone about skills working on thirdgens. AAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA.
Your car is lame, you asked for comments, i've stripped far nicer camaros than that will ever turn out to be, as i said before, theres a difference in building a nice lightweight car and the moron method of throwing everything in the trash can.
Hell my friend has a car with 95% of the stuff you threw out, i'd be willing to bet she'd smoke that pos with no problem, and she doesnt even have headers.

first off z28r1cer why do you have r1cer in your name??? and second, i understand what you are doing seeing how most FAST strip cars dont have speakers ac glass windows rear seats and the list goes on...light body with big motor (even little motor) and right components equals haulin *** if you know anything about cars
Also what other way is there to strip a car for weight purposes????hmmm i cant think of any either probably bc the only way to take the stuff out is to...TAKE THE STUFF OUT...i guess the only complaint would be if youre just dumping it in the trash when you could sell it or give it away SO ENLIGHTEN US tell us all what other way there is to take out extra unneeded weight besides removing it from the car?????...do you make it disappear????im pretty curious as to your answer
And stop posting those stupid "i know someone who has this (blah blah blah BS BS BS) that can beat your car" GOOD FOR THEM and i can name a hundred people/cars that can beat her too
and if they were runnin exact same motor and power and he was running 2 or 3 hundred pounds lighter SHE'D LOSE W/O DOUBT
power to weight ratio LOOK>>>>>>>>>IT>>>>>>>>>UP!
much less COMMON SENSE

I'd lose the bra and put the hood back on... Throwing out the AC and speakers and stuff is one thing, but put the hood back on it, we're not in Hazard County...

GodSpeedGTA knows what's up. Good post.
z28**** is just Slow-minded. "as i said before, theres a difference in building a nice lightweight car and the moron method of throwing everything in the trash can."
SO WHAT IS IT THEN DAMNIT? TELL US!! YOU HAVE EXPLAINED NOTHING!! Could it be: Spend lots of cash swapping heavy parts for light ones? And keeping all the un-nessecary items? OR IS IT, REMOVING THOSE UN-NEEDED ITEMS WHILE UPGRADING TO LIGHTWEIGHT NEEDED ITEMS? IN A COST EFFECTIVE MANNER?
SUCH AS THE FIBREGLASS WINDOWS, ALUM. HEADS ETC?
Okay buddy. ***I HAVENT EVEN STARTED BUYING PARTS YET***
Geez!!
I HATE Ignorance.
"So whats next? Sawzall?"
if you are refering to removing metal by cutting it away, then yes as long as structural integrity is not affected. The metal surrounding the speaker pods, for example.
What happend to inginuity? Home grown go fast people? Seems like a common speed formula for SOME people is buy, buy, buy.
I really appreciate the type of people that are on this board, so many are creative, and thier machines reflect that. But then there are those close-minded types, with thier "my oppinion is the only one that matters".
I drew a good amount of inspiration from here:
Late night quest for 2,800lbs
Anyway I am enjoying this thread

2. Center caps ? you've got to be kidding me. Hell he could lose 4-5 lbs each by having some brains and going to GTA wheels.
3. No hood, i wont even mention this one.
4. Windshield wiper system, we should all remove this from our street driven cars, that .001 sec at the 1/4 is definetly worth it.
5. Everyone throw out your side marker lights, they'll get you .00005 at the track, definetly a must have mod.
thats enough, the car is certified mobile home park material, the pictures say it all, i dont even have to pick it apart.
And when it comes time to him running her at the track, it doesnt matter if she still has all of her a/c equipment and he threw out his centercaps when her engine weighs a good bit less, and i dont care who's car you can get to beat who's, its when you're the one actually doing the work to the cars that it matters.

And to answer your question, it was an old joke from some friends in a chat room, it was "Z28racer" and they changed it due to my full dynamat inside, loud stereo, autometer gauges, pretty much a joke, then i just adopted it, and had it changed on here from Z28racer to what it is now.

Forgive my punctuation or lack there of it

If he wants to do this to his Camaro then let him be. We may not like it, but none of that calls for name calling and such.
Keep going with the project. Don't let the minions discourage you, though it doesn't look like they are.

Other than the car looking like it's seen better days, I couldn't care what you do to it as your the one who has to drive it like that, not me.

Put the hood back on, take off ground fx, passenger door handle, passenger mirror, door moldings, and license plate frame. I bet not having a hood is hurting you some in the aerodynamic department. Don't forget to take out the crashbars :lala:

Car: too many ...
I think the reason everyone is ragging on you is because you might have taken the weight reduction thing a little too far too fast. Yeah a lighter car is better, but there's a balance when you consider form/function. Of course this is all relative, for all I know this might be a weekend cruzer that never sees rain. But if this is driven as often as I'm assuming then I agree this might be a little too much. I have a friend that goes around with no hood on his Nova, but he has a fully built chromed out motor and he samples it all the time. If your car was a full on race car with a built motor then you probably wouldnt be catching as much heat. I would put the hood back on and at least rivet something over the holes in the firewall. If you must run a lighter hood without buying a fiberglass one, cut out most of the metal supports. (leave some so the hood wont flex). I did this with my RS hood and it does make the hood lighter. IMO its better for a street car have a hood that heavier than you want instead of no hood at all. I'd say at that point you've done enough weight reduction until you can spend some $, maybe time to focus on the engine, and traction. But hey thats just my opinion.

Why didnt you just get a Mustang? J/K. I like your weight reduction project, it looks a lot like my car right now, except I have a hood and passenger seat (only cause I needed it to go to florida with my friend). The only thing I would reccomend is putting a hood on it, any weight reduction will be outweighed by really bad aerodynamics, they have fiberglass lift off hoods that arent that heavy. If your worried about underhood heat you could set it up like my car, it has the daytona hood cut out underneath so the heat comes out the opening in front of the cowl, I have 2 fans and even in 100 degree heat in florida I only had to use one.

Yeah where is that thread where they basically had nothing left but the drivers seat and engine???
What are your goals exactly? This appears to me to be a cheap attempt at increasing speed. The car looks awful, I really doubt you gained enough performance to make up for the finger pointing and laughing.
You asked for comments, I doubt you will get any real confidence builders on this one. It is your car and I could give a damn what you do with it, Im not trying to insult you so please dont take this the wrong way, Im just being blunt.

Well, if you are going to hillbillie it up, you might as well remove the hatch as you have removed the hood, the hatch weights 2x as much. While you are at it, why not the doors, too?
...and the sad reality is it will still be a high 15/16 second wonder. Much like the import guys at the track who are driving around hacked up gutted shells of cars that still are slow slugs.

Wanna trade cars? My ugly SC doesn't have those heavy ground effects!!!
It's funny 'cause you are taking off everthing that I have been searching ebay and junkyards for! Mine was ragged out when I got it and I've put tons of work in it and it doesn't look near as good as yours. It was free, so I'm having fun with it, but I sure wish I had some of those parts you have removed!
How much did that weigh? j/k

I have 2 problems with the original post:
1) He removes all this stuff in the supposed pursuit of performance, yet posts zero ET's, or anything to show that he has accomplished anything that has improved performance, and to what degree. I can SAY I'm doing something that is functional, but by not testing before and after, I neatly get around having to admit that I just wasted a lot of time and effort, and destroyed a lot of function for very little gain.
2) He asks, almost insists, that he get feedback from other board members, then doesn't like the feedback he gets. He behaves like stripping a car to save weight is a new idea, and he thinks the rest of us are going to be impressed?!?
nidyanazo, I hope you didn't do a lot of work, you could have just parked it in Compton and gotten a similar result!

my advice...Take off the bra buy a raceweight hood off of usbody...they weight like 20 lbs...shave the door handles and do the rest of the stripping necessary to keep it street legal but make it lighter and fill all the holes and clean up ratty looking stuff...drop a sweet engine in it 383 or 400 block and then paint it...then you will have your street/drag car that can run low #s at the track
by an ss hood and cut out both sides of the hood and you will still get a cooling effect plus they look good on the TG camaros

A LOT of people are suddenly thinking the rules don't apply to them here.
