thinking about some new rims

what do you think of these rims?

i was told that they are American Racing "longboards" but i cant find them on their website.

does anyone have any info on them?

their offset is 0, so they wont fit without a hub of some kind, and they are available in these sizes:

17 X 8
17 X 10
18 X 8
18 X 10

the bolt pattern is

5X4.5

I found one place that sells em but you have to call or email to find out pricing etc...

those aren't too bad, what do they run a rim.

a nice set of 17 or 18's would really set your car off. let me know if you need some help, i have quite a few friend working for various companies that might be able to get you a nicer wheel for cheaper or at least save you money on them.

i dont know how much they are yet, havnt got an email back yet. I havnt really decided if i want 17s or 18s yet.....

17's are less of a pita and if you are the kind of person who drives your car just about anywhere you will run the risk of damaging an 18.

18" rim automatically raises the price almost 500 bucks over a 17 and in most cases alot more. i personally like the 18 just because i'm not a fan of fat tires and i think they fill the well nicely. since i don't drive it all the time it isn't hard to be careful with them. however, if i were to drive the car all the time i would probably stick with 17's.

the other thing to take into consideration is the rim design. some rims really do look better in a 17 then an 18 and reverse. i know with the z06 wheel there is a night and day difference between the design as far as the spoke length let alone the depth of the lip and the other little areas.

with more companies make race tires for 18's having to have a 17 isn't necessarily an major deal but the 17's are becoming more reasonable so if money is an object you might want to consider that as well. the rims aren't much more but the tires sure add up.

if you like that design check out these....

a 2 piece and much lighter as well as better build quality and custom specs if needed.

When deciding between 17's and 18's the main difference will be the sidewall height of the tire. The goal is to choose the right tire to match the overall dimensions of the OEM wheels (or as close as possible). The 17's will require a bigger sidewall, meaning there is more rubber to absorb bumps in the road. In theory this should make the ride more comfortable. The 18's will require a small sidewall, in theory making the ride harsher. Another thing to keep in mind is reinforced sidewalls. A reinforced sidewall will make the ride a little harsher, but they also protect your wheels in extreme situations. For example, if you're driving down the highway @ 50 mph and hit a pothole. A reinforced sidewall will prevent the tire from flexing so much the lip of the wheel actually hits the ground. A non reinforced sidewall (regular sidewall) might flex enough to actually damage your wheel. A previous set of 17's I used to own (Budniks) got damaged this way. I was driving on the freeway and hit a pothole, the non reinforced 40 series sidewall tire flexed too much and the wheel lip was damaged. The wheel ended up becomming out of round. Really bad!! I now run a reinforced sidewall on my 18's and have not had any issues with the occasional pothole or steel plate from construction work. I've learned my lesson and will only run reinforced sidewalls from now on.

have to agree and honestly the ride isn't too bad if you have a decent suspension meaning not 100,000+ miles worn out.

i have all new suspension....will i see a difference in cornering ability from 17's to 18's?

i drive my car a lot. 3,000 miles in just over a month
would a 17 be a better choice, or would an 18 be alright with reinforced sidewalls?

i would think the 18's would corner better. the 17's would give better traction on the straight line because of the larger side wall. you just have to be realistic in the situation. my 18's ride fine and i'm much happier with the looks but that's just me.

18's ride fine with a reinforced sidewall. I have no complaints. One of the things I forgot to mention in my earlier post was that I have not been able to find any 40 series sidewall tires for 17's that have the reinforced sidewall. Because of this alone I would go with the 18's and a commonly avaliable 35 series reinforced sidewall. But it would really depend on how bad the roads are in your area. If the roads are really nice then you dont even have to worry about this reinforced sidewall stuff. The roads in Hawaii are REALLY BAD so I had to think about it.
