3gen wheels on my 2gen???????

Hey guys,

Long time no see...lol. I got a quick question. A friend of mine is sell a set of 16X8 Formula wheels. My question is, Will these fit on my 1976 Firebird Formula? I know that the bolt pattern is the same, and the rear wheels have a 5mm. offset to them.... Will this cause any problems?

Moderaters, I did read Brad's post priyer to posting this thread, I hope it has enough thirdgen content to stay open to atleast long enough to get an answer. If not thats okay too.

Thanks,
Rob

OKay that sounds about right. I wonder why he put the offset wheels up front, maybe they stuck out in the back or something.....ummmmmmmm.

thanks for the info,
Rob

I had an 81 Z28 that I put 82 Z wheels on. The only problem that was encountered is the shop put the 82 Z lugs on the 81 wheel studs. The 82 lugs were metric and the studs were standard. I drove about 10 miles before the lugs stripped and the wheel fell off. Luckily I was going very slow and no damage was done. The shop paid for all new lugs to be put on that were compatible with the studs.

I would ask the guy if you could try before you buy. That way you would know for sure if you are going to run into any problems before you actually buy them. Some people will let you do this; some people will not.

I sold my Formula wheels/tires to a friend with a 70 camaro (he was in need of them) and did the front/back exchange thing and his A-arms ate the inner part of the wheel.
Might be a exclusive thing to his car but, it didn't work as supposed to in his case.

yes you can put third gen wheels on a second gen fronts on rear rear on front , as stated the upper controlle arm rubs so some grinding and trimming is needed and the little wheel spacers help.also you need to use the stick on wheel weights not the kind that goes on the edge you can run 265/50r16 in the back and 245's up front. i have a 81 camaro with 86 iroc rims that i took from the iroc that i had befor selling it.for more answers to your 2nd gen needs go to nastyz28.com
